Hey if anyone can answer this question it would be much appreciated. I am getting a cat back exhaust installed on my GTP soon, and I wanted to get the resonator cut out and a Borla XR1 muffler installed in place of it and then run straight pipes back from there. I took it to a custom exhaust place and they said that the XR1 wouldnt fit because it is oval shapped instead of round. They sugjested that I have a Magnaflow muffler put in place of the resonator instead. I was wondering is Magnaflow as good as Borla? I have heard mixed things about Magnaflow before. I was also wondering if getting the U-bend taken out will make a big power differance? Thanks!

Ubend is restrictive so please go ahead and remove that. It won't be a huge power difference but definitely helps with the exhaust flow. Magnaflpws seem to be a hit or miss some like em others hate em.

If you plan to mod the car we have a thread for that.

    http://www.grandprixforums.net/safel...0-a-67580.html

I would start with the thread and save money on the exhaust. You may like it loud but its not a LSx motor... its a V6, not good sounding with exhaust... at least not very often without alot of work.

Save money on it (stock flows perfect until you're over 300whp so more whine less raspy rattle), buy headers, build an intake, flip the mounts on the dog bones, buy a MPS with a 3.4/3.5 pulley and get it tuned. Then if you want to proceed further you can make it loud and silly sounding.

But yes YES YES remove the U-bend. If you plan to mod it should be first on the list after an intake.

As mentioned, playing around with the exhaust typically just messes things up and makes it sound like crap.

IMO, only one muffler where the resonator should go, with nothing else, is going to sound like crap.

Okay so you guys think that it is probably a waste of money to buy a cat back exhaust for my car? The only proformance mods i have are an intake and colder spark plugs. Also is it hard to get the u bend removed? Can i get it removed without doing anything else to my exhaust?

Just get a downpipe. That'll take care of the ubend. And no need for colder plugs.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

Why do you have colder spark plugs?

    What's proformance?

Get to reading the link in my signature. Then come back with those questions. Yes you want the u-bend gone. Yes, a catback is a waste. If you read that you won't have to ask questions like this
    Sold WBody's: '03 Blue GTP/'98 Green GTP/'98 Silver GT/'05 GXP
    '99 Chevrolet Silverado Classic Z71 4x4 - K&N Intake/Gibson Exhaust #TRUCKTHINGS

Without any other mods you NEED to change plugs. Auto-lite 606's, NGK TR55s, or Factory AcDelco 41-101 Iridium plugs would be the only ones I would recommend. Until you get heavy into mods you don't need a colder range plug. Intake, Headers, 3.4 pulley & Tune can still pull optimal numbers on a stock thermostat and factory plugs. Only reason to get Auto-lite's or NGK's is that they are cheaper and a good spark is a good spark.

As Blue said... Read the thread and you can't go wrong.
