I'm new to the forum as my Uncle gave me this 2001 Pontiac Grand Am Supercharged 3800 GTP. I got it as a daily driver from my truck. I love the car but recently it has some issues that cost $$$$. I have no clue about this car as all my love goes towards my truck. I want to learn about it but didn't get a chance before all came crashing down.

Im in need of full help from you guys as I belong to a few other forums and all have been helpful.

I recently went to get the car checked out and here are the problems.

    1. Leaking Oil Pan w/Oil Sensor fail. (The oil leaked 1.5 qt from 2 month oil change. The oil sensor I can gauge on my own @ times)

    2. Tension Bearings are out (Supercharger) x2

    3. Fuel Sensor (Going to have to figure it out on my own & guage it)

    4. Idler Bearings x2

I can do some basic mechanical things. So if anyone has a D.I.Y guide or advice. Please help me out. I don't have extra funds towards this vehicle as I just got a lift and a new r6.

    Thanks in advance

2 and 4 are simple, the pulleys just come off with a ratchet after you remove the belt. Get some metal replacements from Dayco:

3 is a little more difficult, it's a failed fuel sender. To change it, you have to pull the carpet up from the trunk, open the access panel, and remove the fuel pump from the tank. I don't have a write up handy, but I'm sure you could turn up the info with a search, I know it's been posted.

1 is a lot more difficult. You say the oil sensor is bad, you mean the oil level sender, so you've got a low oil light? If so, you may be lucky and it's what's leaking, also. It's very common for the oil pan gasket to leak, though, and that involves dropping the subframe some to get it out. Doesn't sound like something you'd want to tackle right now.

Thanks for the help! Do you know how much the parts are normally? Also the oil light on the gauge will read low one day and fine another. So its the oil level sender? or sensor?

I really appreciate the help as I'm broke and will try to tackle it all myself.

Should I change the belt too for the car since I'm undoing al the pulleys or there anyways?

    Thanks!

Pulleys are usually around $20 each, not sure on the costs for the rest. If the low oil light goes on and off while the oil level is fine, it does sound like the oil level sensor/sender. They go bad sometimes, and it's not uncommon for them to leak, so hopefully that's all it is. For the belt, that's up to you. General guideline, if you have more than 10 minor cracks per inch, or any major cracking/missing pieces, you should consider replacement.

Unless you've got a press, you can't just replace the bearing, you replace the entire pulley.

    ^Man you're freaking awesome!

Ok, OK, I need to do the pulleys myself and take the car into the shop to check the oil leak.

    ^Sorry, Grand Prix.

So I got the Oil Leak and Sensor taken care of now. I just purchased the pulleys from Autozone to replace.

So I got Pulleys 3, 8, & 9. I also got the Serpentine Belt to replace too. I'm about to change it within the hour. Any special tips or notice to take before doing? I just figure its an easy bolt off and bolt on replacement.

Thanks everyone for the help so far. I've replaced and repaired a few things myself thanks to this site.
