Thread: 99 gtp not starting

Alright so the deal is this I just bought this car not too long ago. I haven't been able to plate it yet because i didn't expect my insurance to be so high. While i was waiting to get the money together i would start it every now and then drive it on the temp plate it always sounded like it was trying hard to start but it always started the first crank. I went to start it the other day and it gave one crank and died i still have lights although they are very dim. I don't know if its related but the gas gauge light was always really dim. My car is stock expect for a stereo power acoustik DVD and i believe the battery is like a megatron 2. So with all the details my question is this i am thinking its the alternator but what should i pull to have tested first the alternator, the starter, or the battery?

Had same problem on my 98 ended up just being corroded battery connections or how old is the battery?

So an update is this, my neighbor charged the battery for me it fired right up sounded nice and healthy. Although the positive terminal on the battery is not a permanent one and its a little corroded and i guess the wires might need replaced which leads me to believe its either that or the alt but he wont help me take the alt off to have tested and i cant do it myself he says it will be a pain and i was wondering if there is any truth to this or does he just not want to help me because i don't have the stuff to do it i don't wanna take it to a shop just for that

That's what I thought its like loosing the tensioner and taking off two bolts right? he was talking about the supercharger belt all this stuff i couldn't think it was that hard

All you need to do is get a cheap volt meter and see what the voltage is at the battery with the car running no need to pull the alt. off
