So I swapped the engine in my 98 gtp and it's running great exept after the swap the key won't turn past the lock and the sifter is stuck in park... On a side note the lights sowing if you're in park reverse drive isn't lighting up... Any ideas?

sounds like you should remove your ignition switch solenoid and clean up the contact on it if that does not work it may be a theft system issue or parking switch which you can also remove and tape down so you never have to worry about it again
the fact that its not leaving park is kinda what gets me normally if the parking switch isnt hit you can turn the key to on and flip it into park once or twice more till you hear a click and remove key than
did u use a matching pcm for the new engine or keep the old one?
It was an engine and tranny swap.. The tranny is from the 2000 gtp. That's what has me stumped is maybe one or the other going but both at the same time... It's almost like the car still thinks its in park.. I can use the sifter release and drive it but it's a pain and I don't want to have to keep using the shifter and key release every time I drive the damn thing
Maybe you forgot to hook up that shnazzy plug on the trans for the range sensor?
the one under the master cylinder on top of the trans next to the shift cable bracket thingymajiggy
well I know with some pcms a case relearn is needed but it wouldn't start if that was the case
thought for a moment maybe having a different vin number on new engine might trigger the theft system but check the video and see if it helps
that parking switch lock is easily accessed bypassed
2002 Pontiac Grand Prix "Press Brake to shift from Park" switch fix - YouTube
this is a good breakdown of the same problem and the components
u can see the button he presses in on the new switch would be what you wanna toggle to see if this is the issue
This happened to me. I ended up having to OH the tranny. And, there was also a note on the statemwnt that said my shifter switch on the tranny was dirrty. You might try check to make sure that shifter switch is clean.
