"We did something similar in testing those cores and contemplated making a new IC design. The results were so horrendous that we abandoned the projected before a 3800 design was completed. We were below 50% efficiency and in contrast we were over 80% on generic Ebay cores and over 90% on Spirco.
We also determined airflow restriction was not an issue a long time ago. Those charts are still on the site now. The blower actually puts out more air with the current IC's because boost drop allows easier flow thru the engine."
Re: Intercooler fluid temps
I find that so amusing that a damn heater core provides the best results.
Re: Intercooler fluid temps
I don't really know how accurately they tested the cores honestly. I have a sneaking feeling that the intercooler housing for these cores wasn't exactly right for the testing purposes. I don't know how they did their tests exactly so I can't say anything about it, but if I was to do a comparison I'd use an actual intercooler (complete core + housing) using each type of core and compare the results that way. There's a lot of variables when you're testing this sort of thing even when its on a bench.
I've done some bench testing of my own and from my experience with this type of core its a very good heat exchanger.
