Hello al I am new to this formum seeking some advice.
My engine suddenly blew and I don't know why.
My car is 2000 gtp odometer says 75k though I do wonder.
All maintenance done on time hoses water pump belts and therm changed.Had ne w rack and pinon bushings and oilpan gasket
changed. Car threw a p102 code about a week before motor went
    Cleaned maf sensor...didn't fix

Planning to put a reman motor in. Friend will do install for me
But I want to find out why my motor blew in the first place so it doesn't happen again
Any ideas?? No smoke no oil leaks no coolant leak. Car seemed to run just fine

I have right around 3700 to either fix car or buy another.

Help will be greatly appreciated as I am a single mother with very limited funds

    thanks in advanced.

P0102 sounds like a MAF code. Are there any mods done to this car? If so, without the MAF helping to calculate the proper A/F ratio you run the risk of running lean. Lean engines = RIP.

No mods at all at least not that I know of. Only had car about a year.
I plan to order motor in the next few days.
So bad maf could have made motor go?
Any upgrades I should have shop do on new motor?

    Thanks

Unfortunately, the exact cause of failure would be hard to pinpoint over the computer, but a faulty MAF signal will screw up the way the car thinks and could potentially cause a failure since it is a supercharged vehicle. Also, if the incorrect fuel grade were used for a prolonged period of time while the vehicle were driven hard, this could also speed up the engine's failure. I'm not saying that you did, but potentially the previous owner may have abused the vehicle with lack of maintenance or just driving it too hard.

If it is a used engine, I would have the shop do lower intake manifold gaskets as these are a common failure point on the engine as well as new spark plugs. I also recommend a thermostat and MAYBE a water pump depending on the mileage.

Thanks for reply. I am ordering a remanufactured engine using all my tin parts and accessories I replaced therm and water pump at 60k miles no issues I hope. I will also replace maf. Should I ask for upgrades when they are building motor or does it matter? I'm not a hot rodder commute30 miles daily to work and run kids around. I need this car to last....can't really afford car payments I'm poor lol.

Had the same issue. Had 87K on my 2004 GTP and one day, rattle, rattle, rattle. Sounded like it was going to fall apart. Sometimes they just go. Nothing you can do about it. I always serviced mine and drove it carefully... no performance race car driving. I ended up getting a motor with 46K out of Atlanta for around $1800 if I remember. We installed it and it started up immediately, ran like a champ from the first time I turned it over. Had a great experience with the company (person) I bought it from after having done A TON of research on these guys and others.

With limited funds just get a stock longblock, swap over your new parts and drop it in. Or find a complete motor and drop it in whole. If I were to do anything on that year it would be to install a hardened 4th clutch hub in the trans. before it strips out and you loose overdrive forever.

I wouldn't have a shop rebuild the bottom end on one of these unless they are very familiar with this motor and its quirks. Just slapping new rod and main bearings in it will not do, or it will die again shortly and you will have wasted your money.

Probably had a leaking LIM gasket that wiped out a bearing or wrong grade fuel (MUST have 91+ octane at all times). The MAF code probably didn't help either.

make sure you get the metal intake gaskets when you put the top 1/2 back together.

Yes fordman mentioned something... were you using regular gas or premium? these SC'd engine require at least 91 or higher octane. anything less and you could have problems.

these engines normally run almost forever. this is not common on a stock engine. you can always just find a used engine with low miles vs a rebuilt one. most places still carry a warranty for the used engines it will be cheaper. I got my engine from Morad parts. his company sells engines on ebay too but it is cheaper to get them from his company.

things to do that might help are:
-find someone local to you and have them tune the car. Even though you car is stock a tune will keep things safe and improve mpg and life of the car.
-have the Ubend removed in the exhaust and have an O2 bung installed sideways. this will improve flow and should increase mpg
-ebay speed daddy headers. if the engine was Knocking the headers will help lower the Knock, increase power, and mpg
