Re: possibly converting to ethanol
...why isnt your electrical stuff grounded nicely like it should be?
ethanol itself is physically not a corrosive agent. it 'cleans' things, but that's about it.

Re: possibly converting to ethanol
E85 is conductive, so you can electro plate your fuel pump due to the massive ground that is a metal gas tank, and a positive anode that is the + wire in the fuel pump.
I have pics somewhere of one of my failed E85 fuel pumps with messy deposits all over the brushes.

39/42# injectors will not get you very far at all on e85, but it will get you close to 300whp.
please show me a 0-100 WOT run on a 3.0, with e85, 39# injectors and a safe and consistent AFR...
if you can I will 100% admit Im completely wrong and its perfectly fine...
well see whats "capable"...
prove it please

This is how people tune for E85.
Adjust IFR until its close, then play with MAF.
Same with injectors.

Yours being a 99 might still have the metal tank.
Re: possibly converting to ethanol
eh... i'll find out in a year. the bigger injectors aren't gonna happen this summer so i'll just have it tuned how it is and save for an E85 setup and tuner for next season

There are too many variables in this. Dark exaggerates a little but his point is valid. He is going to come back and say that such and such car did this with this... Then you will come back and pick his statement apart or someone else will. Then us mods will get messages about how this thread should be shut down and how terrible this site is now.
Every car is going to be different, different miles, different old crappy fuel pump, different weather, different ethanol blend depending on month and location different unknown problems...
Using your head and scanning or having a wideband hooked up to your car is pretty much the only way to recomend stuff anymore.

forgot to add "with no tuning modification"...

you the boss... ill let it go
to the OP... PLEASE do a lot of reading on e85 before switching as there is lots of misinformation out there and also lots of good information out there...
dont just take a few suggestions from one source...
Re: possibly converting to ethanol
my main question was about the size of the injectors, and i thank you all for your info. keep an eye out in about a month and a half for some tuning and dyno numbers on the car

Yeah, take bad advice from 3 random internet people instead of experience advice from 1 person.
Simple fact is, its been done before. E85 cars do not need 10.5:1 afr to be safe... they can run significantly leaner, which is the reason why you can skip down passed a 3.2. Also the fact the car is otherwise stock will reduce the fuel requirement at the 3.0/3.2 pulley level.
I would hope that if I could make almost 500whp on 60s and e86, someone could make 300whp on 42s.
Re: possibly converting to ethanol
I read this thread and now I'm depressed...and confused.
Re: possibly converting to ethanol
dark, not sure if you misread but i'm far from stock, hence the question about swapping for bigger injectors after i'm tuned on the current gas setup
Re: possibly converting to ethanol
Uhh. OK? Get 60s and tune it then?
Re: possibly converting to ethanol
Or 80s from that group buy on ClubGP. lol
If you want some links to the 60s for sale let me know. I also have (7) 42s sitting here that I am going to sell soon.
I have heard the electroplating thing with the metal tanks.
IF you are really concerned about the metal lines, you can get conductive teflon braided stainless steel line that dissipates the static because it has a carbon coating on the inside of the line.
Re: possibly converting to ethanol
i wish... school is expensive. just wanted to hear what people thought about trying ethanol on 42's
