    Guys,
I have a 2000 GTP which is my daughters car. She was driving Friday and stopped at a stop sign and the car just shut down. She tried to restart it and it sounded like the battery was dead or barely charged. The car was parked on a slope so her boyfriend pulled the oil dipstick and noticed it low so he added 2-3 quarts of oil. She called me and when I got there the battery would not even turn over the engine. We tried jumping the car and still nothing. WE towed it back to my shop and I drained all the excess oil and put the battery on charge. Tried to start it the next day and still same issue. Barely turns over motor 1-2 times and then nothing. I recently replaced the LIM, Thermostat, compete coolant change, oil change and had tranny completely rebuilt. The car has been running fine until now. I also pulled the starter and took it to auto parts store and they tested and said was fine. I am at a loss here but I sure hope this motor has not seized up. Any ideas or thoughts.

PS: No water in oil and she said motor temp was not above 210.

Any help would be great. I am about over this car.

    check the grounds.

also i have heard of a a/c clutch keeping a engine from running, it was sized, and also a p/s pump seized up and same thing. pull the belts see it it cranks.

umm... bad alternator. Dome light nice and bright? Does it change w/charger on there? If not bad ground or other wire somewhere.

If it were seized it wouldn't turn over at all. Hence "seized."

I prefer test, then change bad parts personally.

Check the charge on the battery if it's in question. I'd load test it if you think the battery is in question.
Confirm the radiator is full, if it's not when you pull the cap, pull the spark plugs. Any fluid in the cylinders? I'd start by checking the coolant o-rings from the charger to LIM. Right the yellow ones.

If neither of those are the cause, try pulling the plugs and turning it by hand. Should be relateively easy.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Guys,
I tried pulling the belts and still no turn over. I removed the starter and bought new one. Still same issue. I pulled one of the plugs and did not notice any water. Should i pull them all? If so turn it over by hand? How to i do that? How do you get to the back plugs easy? Thanks again for all the help.

I'd make sure both terminals on the battery are bolted down tight first. One of my TGPs would randomly die at one point, and I eventually discovered it's because one of the terminals post bolts wasn't tightening down enough anymore. Changed the bolt, and never had a problem with it again. If that's OK, get the battery tested first to make sure it's even accepting a charge, or swap it with another batter if you have one handy just to test and see if it will take a jump. If the battery checks out, I'd check all the grounds as others have suggested. If any of these things aren't in good order, the jump box won't make a difference.

As far as getting to the back plugs, remove the dog bone motor mounts, and rock the motor forward a bit. Should give you more access to the back.

You really need to take a step back and stop throwing parts at the car until you do a proper diagnosis. You could have easily tested the starter to see if it was faulty before replacing it.

You need to test the battery voltage. Just because you are jumping it does not mean the car will start if the battery is dead enough. Also if the battery is dead enough a jump box won't do jack sh!t.

My bet is teh battery is beyond dead and the alternator is dead as well which is what drained the battery. You can pull the alternator and battery and take them both to a parts store and they can bench test them. If you are lucky you can save the battery, but you may end up replacing both.

    Guys,
Thanks again for all the input. I will be removing the battery and taking it in to be tested. I just discovered a small water leak under the car however my daughter said the car was not overheating when it quit. I will check that once I get the car to turn over. I have also removed all 6 plugs and none of them look as if they have or ever had water on them. I have the battery completely disconnected from the car at this point and have it on charge. The last few times I have taken a battery to be tested they told me it had to be charged to test. Duh.... If its bad it wont be charged right? Keep the input coming as it is much appreciated. Also, someone mentioned manually turning over? How do you do that? I have all the belts off and plugs removed?

    Guys,
Update, I just put a brand new battery in the car and the same thing. Old one tested somewhat OK but since i buy so much from there they gave me a brand new one which we tested. At this point I have new starter, new battery, all plugs removed, all belts removed and the car will not even turn over. Makes the sound like the battery is dead. Some have said check grounds? Can someone tell me where to check and I will take a look at that. Again, the car simply quit at a stop sign on Friday. No smoke, no noise, and has not started since. I recently replaced the LIM and every other gasket above that and the car has been running like a champ. Oil is still clean. I am open for help here. Thanks

the ground is on the bumper side of the engine, on the bell housing bolt for the trans, right above the starter. the ground cable may be bad.

i would also at this point if the ground is tight and clean, is try to turn it with a big ratchet and a socket on the balancer bolt, if you cant turn the engine that way, its sized up and now trash.
