The tach in my car does not work at all, the trac off light has been on since I got the car in 2008 but no codes were thrown, the car has been down since april 2008 untill just recently. I did research online and everything pointed at the CPS, so I changed that. The tach still doesn't work, so then I went and got a new harness that goes from the coils and the main harness down to the crank and cam sensors. It does have a code thrown for the CPS now, but it's a new sensor and that part of the harness. I'm not really sure where to go from here.

It could be the stepper in the cluster. Check to see if the signal is at the stepper leads.
    Just throwin this out there.

Check what you replaced. something caused the crank code. Once that's fixed... use a scanner to check for rpm. If you see rpm at the pcm then it's between there and your cluster. Might be a cluster...might be a loose connection.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

ive had some issues with my tach, intermittantly works, im pretty sure its from when i installed my HUD and DIC,which dealt with a majority of tapping into wires near the cluster connector.

make sure its not a cluster connector issue (ie. raped/spread terminals, etc)

Okay so I found the problem today, I got really lucky, one of the pins on the zzp PCM was bent and it caused the whole plug to not seat right, enough was seated that the engine ran, now the check engine light is off and the tach works! I'm glad I found that and nothing got permenentely damaged! Thanks for the ideas too

    Good point.

I VOTE FOR MORE INFO PEOPLE. I would also like to express my concern for people not posting resolutions. It's like missing the last 15 minutes of a movie that only shows once.

Sorry about not saying that, it's been down for a few years with the engine out so I forgot to even list that, and it still seems like such a crazy thing to find, but now it all works!
