Hello all, My 98 Gtp has a/c issues. When I bought it last year I found as soon as it got hot out, the air was week and slow. This year the compressor stays engaged the whole time its on and the air sucks. I noticed the clutch after I thought it needed freon but my gaged shows its over pressured. My thoughts are its staying engaged and over pressuring itself and not cooling right, any other thought or how to check?

Over filled ac systems are as bad or worse than under filled ones. Get it vacuumed out and refilled with the right amount.

    +1 over pressure is bad

However I can't see why that would engage your clutch all the time. When you say all the time do you mean just that? Or when your running any heating/cooling/defrost?

It only stays kicked in when I have the a/c on, it does turn off at wot and when a/c is not selected. My main thought is if it got over filled, why is it just now having problems? I filled it last year when it started getting hot and it work perfect.

You say it's overfull, are you basing that on a single gauge setup that probably came with a cheapie can of freon? If so...then you really don't know if it's overfull, compressor seals are leaking etc etc. With a correct dual gauge setup and the info about pressure vs external temps etc..and engine speed, then you would know what is happening in there.

I've see the high side be low and the low side be higher than it should. It was time to swap that compressor.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Very true Bill, I do not have them tools nor money for them. I am not putting alot money into the car personally as its not the nicest Gtp around and I just use it to drive daily. Rather just delete the system. If it was my Buick then I would care!

I'll have to ask my buddy who lives in my basement. He is ASE cert. and honda tech cert. but He may not have them. Pretty sure he went on a rant about how they do not pay well enough at places he works for him to waste time and money for those certain certifications and get no extra pay.
    Thanks guys!
