I've been searching on google and other sites, but can't get a reliable answer. My engine blew up, (probable rod bearing-haven't torn it down yet) and I want to get an engine with low miles and a factory metal gasket. I originally thought it was in 2004, but that was just the metal intake manifold. I've also heard 05, 06 and even 07. Does anyone have any documentation to show when it really happened?
BTW, I have a 2003 GTP, looking to swap in a gen 3.
Black 2000 GTP. Replaced plugs, wires, maf, IAC, tires, tie rod ends, and s/c oil. Lifetime alignment. No mods yet, just got it. Straightening everything out first. 128,xxx miles

If you're buying a new engine you should replace all the gaskets anyway, the gaskets are all metal now anyways, i just did a LIM gasket on an impala SS the dealer gave me the aluminum ones

I think it was mid-way through 05, as I've seen mention that some 05's got them and some didn't. Using up leftover stock I guess. You would be best served to change the LIM gaskets anyway while the motor is out, along w/ the valve cover gaskets and grommets. You will also need injector o-rings for this since you have to remove them to get to the LIM.

BTW, didn't the 03 GTP come w/ the Gen 3 already on it???

Jake (regorhtims) has an 05 and he still has plastic factory gaskets. You can look at the engine and tell if it's plastic or alum. Just look between the lower intake and the head (visible right at the base of the valve cover). Also, if you want the alum gaskets just because you don't wanna take it apart, it's really easy if you've never done it. Find you a good low mile block and then worry about it lol
