I picked up a 3" catless downpipe for a dope @ work who has not stated he can not pay me for it. My question is what are the benefits (if any? I know in the old days the pellet type cats were extremely restrictive) of running without a cat? I have a 3" catted downpipe on my car now?

Benefits? That depends on what you think a benefit is.
    ~+2HP
    Louder
Cheaper than buying it with cat
    Requires tuning for rear O2
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

    What they said:

You can't get a clogged cat if it isn't there
You let the engine breath a bit more so +2-3 hp
    Less weight by 3-4 lbs.
    Cheaper

Catless means nothing other than blacker exhaust tips.

Infact, dropping the cat nets you no power gains (unless it is clogged) and actually hardly anymore noise with a totally stock catback.
