Im looking at ZZP and would like to look into a down pipe.

At there site they have about 10 dif selections:

    http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...=551&catid=110

Im pretty sure you guys recommend a 3 inch down pipe. Which one do I need? I would like to keep my cats. Also ZZP looks expensive. Anywhere else that I can get a 3 inch down pipe for a little cheaper?

    BTW 01 GTP...

    Thanks!

Don't worry about the cat you have if it's stock, as they suck and go bad. Get a DP with a new cat and a bolt in model to make it easier on you. 2.5" or 3" depends on what you plan to do with the car in the future. Probably 3" to be safe.

For price, ZZP's pricing is pretty good for DPs. You'll find others are more expensive usually. At least with ZZP they'll ship you a return label if you choose and you can send in your old one for a $50 credit. Need to go ahead and realize that modding your car is going to cost a lot of money. No way around it... You have to pay to play.

Is there a noticable power increase? Is it worth it?

It was worth it to me. Better top end and more touchy on the low end. Plog just accented this even more.

I would definettly keep my cat. I have emissions to pass!

Thanks for the info. Im going to talk to my guy who works on these cars. See how much trouble it would be to install.

Btw, are they hard to install?

Depends on how hard your car wants to make it. If the bolts cooperate, not hard.

    Really?

-I noticed no sound difference (i'm still on stock mufflers, which are the only decent sounding mufflers IMO in a free flowing exhaust)

-For the smell, I really didn't notice anything then again i've always been around cars with no cats. But still, my car smells better than that. Plus my car won't smell like rotten eggs in the future. I honestly can't see how the smell bothers anyone though. All I can say is, stay away from Diesel Trucks (like my stock 08 Chevy 3500HD 6.6 Duramax Diesel) if a catless car bothers you that much. My catless cars smell 1000000x better than my stock Chevy.

-As for a dirty bumper, i've never had that problem on my bumper and chrome tips, and I have an Artic White car. The black bumper issue could be running too rich most likely. My other GTP (though black) the tips stay decently clean on it and I know she hot rods that car too. Oh well.

No regrets for me. I had a Magnaflow 3"/3" cat on my car, I removed it and lost some boost. Talking about a restriction! A 3" straight pipe took care of that issue for good. Gave me a nice place to install a wideband too. Win Win situation for me. When we got her car I found a nice 3" off road DP for it and installed that with the stock cat-back and nice chrome tips. Doesn't sound any different than stock....

meh, just my opinion. the cat flows well enough as is unless youre running a turbo so what's the use in getting rid of it?

I noticed a big change in sound. Made it quite a bit louder, actually. My tips get discolored, but not my bumper. So that's a plus I guess.

You can definately tell the difference between cars that have converters and ones that don't.

Oh, and the Duramax smell....OMG....it almost makes your eyes water. Guess that's the sign of good fuel atomization in a diesel.

Will 3" work with the rest of the exhaust stock?

I dont think the Duramax smells as bad as the Fords or the Dodge diesel. As for the cat removal making the car louder thats good for me. My exhaust is way too quiet.

Most all of the new diesel engines will have that wonderful fragrance. Probably has to do with the new EPA standards.

Is 3" better then 2.5"? wat would be good for a '97 GTP with just a Thraser CAI for now, and maybe an overkill PCM soon, and Headers or Exhaust in the far future?

Wat are the pluses and minuses? Is ZZP a good downpipe?

most headers come with a downpipe. so if your going that route dont worry about the downpipe. it will just be money wasted later
