Just thought I would share my experience with this. Had to replace my fuel pump two weeks ago and didn't want to shell out the $200 + for the full drop in assembly. Granted this would have easily made the job about a half hour long instead of two hours, but was worth the money and a lesson learned. Anyhow, after doing tons of searching and coming up empty handed when trying to find just a factory replacement pump, I stumbled across one on ebay of all places.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

It's a brand new factory AC Delco fuel pump rebuild kit. Only $60!! Correct for the 98 GTP. Took some time and patience trying to fish this thing out of the FP assembly, not to mention replacing the plastic fuel lines are a PITA, but was do-able. Anyone out there that wants to save the $ and doesn't mind the extra work involved, this is great deal! Good luck!

i always go this route when ever possible, if your fuel gauge is works fine, just swap the pump and filter.

Most definitely. However when I tried to find this, not one single auto parts store sells just the rebuild kit, not even Rock Auto, and there was no mention of it on this site when I was searching. Everyone wants to sell the whole fuel pump assembly. Thought this could help someone else out down the road.

most of the time pep boys and autozone and alike stores, wont have it. but the old school parts stores will. i have a store called coast automotive performance, when i was a kid it was the place to order any go fast parts, rebuild stuff, they had it all, still to this day they have stuff that the other guys dont, and cheaper most of the time too for the same part. ebay is surely the one of the best ways to get hard to find parts these days.

I checked with my local old school guy who has and can get about anything, but this was not even one of those. He only sold the assemblies.
