I think I have read this somewhere here before but why does everyone say not to rebuild one of these engines and just get a junk yard engine?

The reason people don't rebuild them is because the bottom end is extremely strong from the factory and most of the time people melt holes or chip a piston because of knock and not being tuned properly; thus an engine from a junk yard is what $500 or so... and a "built" motor is 1000+. These engines need more flow before you try to build them up at all. Exhaust is the first place everyone has to mess with to get any kind of power from the motor....stock or not.
2001 GTP - 3.4" pulley, Headers, welded in flowmaster mufflers, Tune, Intake, SSC/AGX, Engine/Trans mount spacers, GMPP F/R Swaybar, 17" Rims, Built trans: 3.29 gears, 2500 stall, ect ect (built by Billboost)

Close, but wrong. "tuning' has nothing to do with the actual pcm tune... if you break pistons you are doing something mechanically wrong or just flat out have the wrong setup mechanically for the PCM you have installed into the car.

Anyway, I would be a bit confused to see alot of crank case pressure from bad rings... its quite uncommon to actually keep the piston in one piece and what not. Just do a compression test and see where you are at. If you dont have good compression in all cyl's then you are in rough shape either way you look at it it, and you might as well part the motor out.

Junkyard a new engine for 200-400 bucks and call it a day. You can run a n/a or a SC motor if you have to, although I highly suggest getting another SC motor.

The real reason why people say to just get a junkyard engine is because these bottom ends are temperamental when being rebuilt. You can't merely just slap in new pistons and so on, the block needs to be aligned bored and more. Thus time and cost for properly rebuilding the bottom end is not really worth it. It's just easier and cheaper to pick up an engine at a junkyard and call it a day.

Ok then thanks for yalls help I am new to this and like I said before I bought this car with this problem for 500 so I think I am still good I think lol but I have been pricin and like everyone has said a rebuild everywhere I have found here in the ft worth area around 2000 that's me taking the motor to them and then I have found one for 1500 with 51000 miles for complete motor but as far as everyone saying 300-400 have not seen anything around here that cheap.. And as far as any mods are concerned I don't think anything has been done to this car. It has 160000 on the car. I just wan something reliable cause it is gonna be my dd but I also want to do some mods to it as long as it doesn't affect fuel milage too much since that was the real reason I got igloo my jacked up jeep gets bad milage and work is about to get further away so gonna park the jeep and drive this to work..

$1500 sounds even high for an L32 long block. You can buy a short block and put your top end on it.

Ok. Here is your answer. Spen $69 on ebay. order yourself a "Cylinder leak down tester" and all of us can discover without removing the heads as to wheather we have bad intake, exhaust valves. bad rings or blown head gaskets. Read up fellows on leak down test. They really do tell you alot of info about the condition of any car motor. Hope this helps you like it did me.
