Hey im finishing my ported heads and im about to start on the exhaust port. i know better then opening it all the way to match the gasket and header, as you want the D shape or box shape in our case to prevent the flow from reversing and coming back in to the chamber.

my question is i cant find any good pictures of finished exhaust ports. i know that the exhaust port can make or break a ported head and im just starting to assume that these port shapes are kept a close secret. im toying with reversion barriers... i just would like an idea of what is common with the big three when it comes to these ports. ZZP actually has tape over the ports and painted them to hide the port shape on the pictures of their heads. WBS has a very very small picture so its hard to see the shape.

any input would be apreciated. i do kinda have a plan and idea of how im going to shape the ports.

Unfortunately the best ones look stock in shape.

    What cam are you running?

If stock, don't enlarge. Just smooth.

I dont have a cam yet. im looking at a GT2 or VS. if the GT2 is gonna give me more top end then i will go that way. if i end up waiting more then a year i may go XP. the cam will be determinded after the topswap goes on at the end of the year. I just want to be ready for it.

I guess from that information about the stock shape is best.... that the edges of the port/ outer head wall do help as reversion barriers... Thank you.

Besides the experience I have from before, I followed these pics from trannyman for mine and they came out pretty good. Make sure you get the casting marks smoothed out.

And if there's a question on whether you'll go too thin, don't go any further or you'll need new heads. Especially at the elbow around the valve guide, it's thin there.
