Alright...way to dive in headfirst XD.

Since you have a scope, you could tell whats in the cylinders, so, use compressed air, and vacuum to evacuate the cylinders, and make sure nothing is in there.

OR, if you're deadset on pulling the heads, then do so, to make 100% absolute sure there are no foreign contaminants in there.

The VS cam is very streetable, but often overlooked because people want a more aggressive cam. Plus you could always run a set of higher ratio rockers in combination with the VS cam for more lift.

And yes, the modded retainers are designed for more clearance, but are usually used on an XP build with stock heads, for the required clearance.

Having the heads reworked is one of the most beneficial things that can be done to a car, but you need someone with experience, and is typically done when going for an all out build.
For a VS cam, you'd be good with a set of 90# springs, no need for anything else if you're keeping the heads on the car.

If you're yanking them off, then minds well rebuild the head, with new springs, locks, retainers, and seals.

Unless it's something hard. It'll pass out of the cylinder, most likely w/o any damage at all.

port the TB/blower first as practice.

Theres a writeup on basically polishing the stock heads. some nice gains were found.

I saw this last night and began to type "just leave it, it will pass through the exhaust and won't be a problem". I stopped because I figured most people here would FLIP A CHICKEN over leaving stuff in the cylinder.

I flip eggs, not chickens. When the egg is still inside the chicken..you can't tell which side is ...sunny side up.

SLP's have a single wall flex. Will it tick, yes. So do SD"s. They never leaked until I blew the flex in half with a bit of back pressure. Plus they had been wrapped at the flex for around 3+ years.

Best fit time after time.. they get my vote

Pulley is the last thing you touch.

Run the stock and see what the boost levels are like.

Get the fueling down, some timing. then see if you can drop.

Kind of annoying you deleted your posts.

Suggests you were never serious and dislike this place.

Also interesting you no longer mention the gen 2 Vee.
