    Hello,
My car loses power when I accelerate. It starts fine but loses speed. I put the pedal to the floor and it won't go what does the EGR valve do? Can anyone give me any suggestions? Thanks

It sounds like you are experiencing KR. This is knock retardation. Which lowers your timing based on the predetonation the pcm sees in the engine.

    What fuel are you running?
How old are your plugs and wires?
Is your check engine light flashing when you feel the power loss?
Does your catalytic converter glow red if you look at it after a run up the highway?

OMG I was away for the weekend but I just took my car for a drive,3-4 miles and it didn't miss a beat. Go figure. I originally logged onto to this website because I thought I was having transmission trouble. It was shuttering and jerking. We took it to someone and he changed the sellinoid(sp) but didn't fix the problem. Then one evening it shuttered and hesitated and finally, would not start. I parked it overnight and the next day it fired right up and I drove home(about 18 miles) I had to baby it a little but made it home. We then changed the fuel pump and the ignition control module. It drove for maybe 20 miles, put regular gas in it, got down the road 3 miles and it died. Left it there and came back in a couple hours and it started but wouldn't keep running and finally would not start. we then changed the cam and crank shaft sensors. I drove maybe 8 miles and that's when it started losing power. we bent the prong on the relay for the fuel pump, but that didn't help either. We checked the catalytic converter and it was not red.
The plugs and wires were changed not that long ago. My service engine light is on. I don't think i can trust it, although as of this moment it seems okay. I hope this isn't too confusing. guess i'll drive until it acts up again and I'll be back here begging for help thanks for your help

If your service engine light is on then get the codes. They're there for a reason.

You posted in the Supercharged section that you put regular gas in...and not long after it lost power.

    The problem is you.

Your car requires a minimum of 91 octane or it's going to predetonate, have no power and hopefully not chip a piston if you push it hard.

You can trust the check engine light. That baby was programmed by a bunch of genius's at GM. Take my word for that. The FSM and the tests etc are knowledge gained through billions and billions of cars, mechanics and trial and error. Trust it..

I told my genius husband that it said to use premium and he said it didn't matter so i followed his direction. I bought my car new and have been fuelling it wrong for eleven years. Is it going to matter now if I change? Probably won't help at this time. Sometimes I want to shoot him but it does have 177000 miles on it. I'm going to check the codes and repost Thank you so much for your help

Good to know. then likely it's not the fuel. However you can still smack him. At least this time, you'll have a vaiid reason.

If this just happened and you've been using regular for that long..the issue isn't the fuel. You aren't really leaving many easy things though.

just take it to auto zone, ask then to scan the car, tell them the light is on, they will be able to tell you what the code and problem most likely is.

and start using 91 or better, (i use 93 always) the price wont make that much of a difference in the long run, and your engine will thank you too. you should get better mileage using super too.

Grrrrrr. I drove my car today and it acted up again(lost power when accelerating) I went to Auto zone and the code said I needed to replace the 02 sensor so we did. It is still acting up. It seems better, but I am still experiencing a drop in speed. I am beginning not to love my car so much. I have a steep gully behind my house and feel like putting it in neutral and giving it the boot. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

did the check engine light go off? if not unhook the battery for 30 minutes, it should re set it for you and maybe run better.

if you just replace a sensor, it takes 50 miles or more to get it test its self off, on its own.

If you replaced the cam and crank position sensor you may need to do a case learn on the car, on the HPtuners site they say you should do a case learn if you change either of those.

This kinda sounds like a bad catalytic converter me, mine did that when my cat was bad.

These cars have 2 O2 sensors did you replace the front or the rear O2?

Pull the front O2 out and drive the car and see if the problem goes away, if it does than the cat is your problem.

Thanks for everyone's input. I "reset" the code and the service engine light went off. I drove about 34 miles today and it seems to be running great (knock on wood) So far the speed has stayed right where I put it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I had to give it a second try at starting this morning but 2nd try and each time after was perfect. I can live with that. Thanks to all of you for your help. Hopefully i can drive now w/o any problems

now just start using 93 octane, and your all set.

Well, here I go again. My car is losing power again. Maybe it is the catalytic converter. Haven't pulled the 02 sensor out yet to see if it stops. Frankly, we are sick of working on it. I do have another question for now though. On the transmission I know it is MN7 and 4T65 EG. It has a lot of miles on it so I'm thinking of going to salvage yard for one.(???) They make reference to XAB and XXB. Does anyone know which one I need? Thanks again for any info I can get.

HELP please! I've changed so many things on my car but it's still not fixed. Most recently changed the fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter and air filter. My car still does a little hestitaion at highway miles, but this time service engine light did not come on. Exsisting problem now is when I slow down, it dies on me. Have trouble starting it, but helps if I'm giving it gas. I disconnected the mass air flow sensor and drove it a couple miles but it didn't help it any. If that is the problem would it correct it right away or do I need to drive it longer to reset the computer? I am truly at my wits end. If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. thanks
