My daughters car engine seized-up so I got another engine from the junk yard. There is one little thing on the original supercharger that is different from the "new" supercharger. Below are the pictures.

I was planning on taking as many of the external parts off the original engine as possible including the supercharger. Mostly because I feel better about those parts than the ones coming on the "new" motor.

this is my original engine supercharger.

this is the "new" engine supercharger

thats the 97 supercharged motor vacuum tree thingy.

to make it simple, I would just swap the other blower over and re-use the same vacuum setup, but thats just me.

you can make that setup work if needed.

Well the motor was advertised as a '99. Do you think that it's a '97?

I assume that you mean to put the supercharger from the original motor onto this new motor, correct? That is what I was thinking I was going to do unless there was some reason I should not.

they must have got the years wrong.

97 grand prixs were the only year with that vacuum line set up.

and yeah, take the other blower and slap it on this motor and run the vacuum lines like they were in the first place.

it'll cost another 20 bucks to do with needing a supercharger gasket and orings for the injectors but thats no big deal.

I already bought all new gaskets for the motor on the advice of another member. So I will be changing all of them.

So if I put my blower and TB on I should be good with my current PCM on my '99?

I hope that all the gaskets are the same from the '97 to the '99. Do you know if they are?

    Head gaskets
    TB
    LIM
    supercharger gasket
    VC's
    Water pump
    Timing chain cover
    Rear main oil seal
    exhaust manifolds

yup all the those gaskets are the same.

    the pcm is fine aswell.

just swap the blowers and change the gaskets and you will be good to go.

Also, you must re-use the old throttle body and sensors too, so swap that with the blower.

    awesome, thanks for the help.

I went through my rock auto order and checked everything against a 97 and as you said it all matched. The only item that I could not seem to match was the thrmostat. I ordered an ACdelco 131120 but I could not find that number for the 97.

T-Stat's are all the same. I would also keep your '99+ alternator bracket as the 97-98 aluminum ones tend to snap.

How can I identify the motor as a 97? I just want to know for my own knowledge if it is a '97. That way when I order parts in the future I can keep that in mind.

Maybe the blower was changed at some point and they put a '97 on it?

If I remember correctly there are numbers on the motor so there probably can match those to something.

The VIN on the motor seems to say it's a '99. The 10th digit is "X" and so is my original '99 motor.

I looked it up on line and it shows "X" as '99.

So it came from a '99 GTP 2 door coupe out of Fairfax Kansas. All the same info as my original car and motor.

where is the vin on the motor located??

I only ask because when I got my car they told me the motor had been replaced... I believed them because the car has 215k on it.. so If i can verify that it would be nice..

Well, actually the way I wrote that is a little misleading. I was actually looking at my receipt which has the VIN on it. I am not positive if there is a VIN in the engine and it is at work so I can't look at it right now.

I know there is a tag on the lower block on the side toward the front of the ar if I rememeber correctly. But I am not sure if that was a VIN or not.

SO I am not being much help am I?

No matter what...the supercharger is at LEAST a 1997 Eaton supercharger...might be a '99 bottom end...but who knows...

For sure, I agree. I am going to do as everyone has advised but I just kind of like to know what I have.
