hi this might be a stupid question but im not sure. i was woundering if my alternator would have anything to do with my car starting hard? its been sitting for a couple weeks and when i went to start it the other day the battery was drained so i jumped it and let it run for a couple mins shut it off and it started right back up so i shut it off came back a couple hrs later and it was drained agian. also i noticed since ive owned the car that when i start it it starts kind of hard like dosent want to turn over but it always did. i have a general knowledge of how stuff works in an engine and every thing im just not positive wether or not the alternator could b the solution for both my problems or even one at that lol.

Sounds like your alternator is bad. Its main job is charging the battery and it sounds like that's not getting done.

Is the alternator making a unusually loud whirring sound? That would confirm my suspicion that the diodes are bad. That will take out the battery too. Check to see that your trunk light goes off when you close the lid.

test the battery first, do a CCA test on it to make sure a cell is not dead.

If the battery checks out, it could be the alt.

    cold cranking amps.

you need a battery tester to do it, autozone should let you use it or o'riellys.
