Thread: GTP fuel problems

2000 GTP, a little over two weeks ago before I went to a school my GTP was running fine for the most part (other than it would stall when placed in reverse unless I gave it gas) and the night before I left inhad it running, turned it off and went to turn it back on. The car started and then just died. No sputtering like with a vacuum leak it just died. I replaced the fuel pump fuses and threw deadpan in the tank. I have narrowed it down to either the fuel pump or my injectors. I am almost definite the Injectors have never been cleaned and it's at 10500. Any ideas, other than what I have. It has brand new plus and wires, it starts up just fine and then dies. Thanks!

Sounds to me like your pump died. Injectors don't generally all go out at once.

If you turn the key to the on position without starting the car, can you hear the pump prime?

If it starts for a second then dies, your fuel pump resistor is probably bad:

sounds like the resistor went on it. Mine died randomly one day driving home, felt like it was out of gas and died. would restart run like sh*t for a few seconds and choke out and stall. Bypassed the ressitor and it ran fine. Bought a new resistor and it colved my issue. Ive got a spare resistor laying around brand new never used but to test fit if your interested

I agree with the above posts. Bend the pin out on the relay and see if it fixes it. IF you end up needing/wanting a pump then check out our vendor page:

Yeah I haven't listened for the pump because I am constantly busy with work. I am gonna go ahead and check it out after I get my CAI on again. As for the resistor I'll go ahead and bend that tab and see what happens, if it doesn't work then that means my fuel pump is bad correct? As weird as this may sound there could be water in the gas (more than usual) because I am stationed in Alaska, that happened to my squad leaders truck like 3 weeks back with the exception of she got half way to work and then her truck died, my tank is at 3/4.

You don't need to listen to your fuel pump to hear if it primes. W/o priming you won't start at all.

What you are getting is .. prime to start and then no low speed fuel pump to keep fuel for idling.

Please bend the pin. I'll be the best 3 minutes of car diagnostics you'll ever do.

Yeah I bent the tab on the resistor and still had the same problem. It's getting fuel because it starts up and runs, even though it's only for a second. Taking a step back, the night it died I was running it just fine actually and then turned it off for 5 minutes and when I went to turn it back on this problem started. So I am beginning to think I have excessive amounts of water in the gas tank due to the climate.

I have a new fuel filter and will install it when I get back from leave in 2 weeks along with sorting out any other problems I have with this vehicle.

Water would usually give you varying results to a degree. I'd try unplugging the maf and see if you can keep it going with the throttle.
