It is a comp g. Its not for sure the O2 sensors and every forum I looked at said if you are still getting good mileage they are not failing. So that is why I am not wanting to take a $140 shot in the dark.

There's used 02's on here for 30 bucks...dealer there only 60 something..and you only need the upstream. So a shot in the dark is what you start doing to try to fix things when you don't know what's wrong...again cheaper then a motor...which is no doubt where this is heading

I have a 2004 gtp comp g as well and my car sort of does a similar thing as his does. Mine just does it when its cold and i put it from reverse to drive it sometimes wants to puke, but in the sense just catches if you will and goes. My dad said its probably just from not letting it warm up. I'm convinced its transmission related. It's never died nor has it ever been a bigger problem. Just every now and then. One of those pontiac quirks In the cooler days I usually remote start and let it warm up for a few minutes as I walk out to her and she's good. My car has almost 112,000 still going strong! =D

So I think I may have figured the problem out.... I unplugged the EGR valve and the pinging immediately stopped. I have also not been able to duplicate the problem with it unplugged. I tried to clean it but when I plugged it back in it started idling funny. When I unplugged it, it idled fine. It looks like I am just going to replace the valve and that will hopefully fix the problem.

I had a similar problem to this a few months back. I drive an 04 gt with a non S/C 3.8ltr engine. I would back out of the driveway, put it in drive and it would bog. I would feather the accelerator until it seemed like the motor and tranny caught up to each other and then it would drive fine. Took it to my GT specialist and he said it was a modulator in the tranny. He replaced the modulator and no more bogging. My car has about 240 K on it.
Not saying this is what's wrong with your car, but the problem sounded similar, also never threw a code.

Do you have a part number on this modulator for the tranny? Sounds like very similar issues. Mine will do it every now and then. You're right too it doesn't throw a code. Mines got almost 112 k .

Well if the new EGR doesn't fix the problem I may have to look into the modulator in the tranny. The part number would be very helpful too thnx!

egr would make sense. if it's stuck just a lil bit open your car is choking on exhaust gas reciruclating...hopefully this works.

what kind of fuel are you running 91 octane is what you should be using im surprised you have no SES light it sounds like you have a missfire the SES light would only flash while its happening. if its not your plugs wires fuel filter o2 sensor then all thats really left is your coil packs and fuel injectors i would check the coil packs test light and spray bottle if its not that i would try to clean your fuel injectors

Really? A few posts back he said he was using 91 octane, and the issue has already likely been solved as it appears to be a bad EGR valve.

I've not forgotten about the tranny module, I'm getting some work done on Saturday and I'll see if I can get a part number then.

EGR valve didn't fix the problem.... I think the EGR system might be related to the problem because the car seems to run a lot better with it unplugged. Is there anything else in the system that could be doing this?

How do you delete the EGR? Won't this damage the engine after a while.
