I changed to Amsoil last oil change. About 1,500 miles later my car started developing this slapping/tapping noise when it is idling. It is loudest at cold idle and can still hear it at hot idle.

For a few weeks it was doing it everyday, so I took it into the dealership to get looked at. They told me they couldn't hear anything. I took the car home and now it only happens some mornings, not every morning. I can still also hear it sometimes at idle. Sometimes its loud enough at cold idle that I can hear it about 50ft away.

It seems to be coming from the bottom of my engine. I can't tell if its driver or passenger side but I'm thinking driver side.

I will have a video of it up as soon as I can. Anyone else have this issue?

I would like to get this figured out asap because im ready to start modding!!!

Also the noise stops if I rev the engine while its idling or start moving.

Don't know if its your prob, but lifter noise is loudest at idle, and goes away as the motor revs up

Amsoil. Pffft. Who sold you that crap? Probably cost you like 50hp.

    LOL

Just kidding. Ive run Amsoil in my GP since I bought it. What filter are you using? Is it the Amsoil EaO29 or some other off the shelf filter?

My gp has 35k on it. I dont think its s/c related, hopefully.

    I'm using the Wix filters.

^i doubt its the s/c w/ that low of miles than.

i'm just sayin', the bearings do make a clatter sound for the s/c when at idle, and when u start goin', u don't hear it!

I also had this problem with my GP. I tried different oils and additives but nothing worked. Eventually I took it to the shop and my intakes were shot. I think it was around $500 fix but could've been more, it was a couple years ago. Haven't had a problem since. Oh by the way and stick with Valvoline or Mobile 1.

possibly it could be a lifter sticking, or a wrist pin giving a piston a little play, this is all common gm problems. there was once a TSB on the wrist pins and GM's solution was to replace 4 of 6 pistons ( cylinders 1-4) it was a joke. on the vortec engines that came in trucks and SUV's, GM's answer for wrist pin cold start ticking was to replace the engines but then they felt that wasnt cost effective so they started doing pistons too for those.

Yea after all my research i've decided its probably lifter tick. I just don't drive the car for a few minutes after I have started it until the tick goes away. For my car it seems to be worse when the weather is warmer. Who knows.
