Re: somethings up in the front cover-UPDATE
You'd be surprised at what a good shop can do with a set of junk (looking) heads. I've seen where guys have taken some bad looking stuff and had them re-finished and no problems at all. It's actually pretty common in the racing world. From the looks of the plug, something detonated pretty good. Was it the #2 cylinder (on the back)? That tends to be the culprit when all hell is about to break loose for some reason, and I really don't know why. Chances are too, that the piston could have been damaged for a long time before it decided to let go.
If you do decide to go with the L26, you might want to start out with a good ol' 3.8 on that GenV and put some good timing into it. You could probably see some good gains with the higher compression and the setup you are running now.

dont feel bad i couldnt get my car running for 3 weeks because of ZZP's one word emails. they money i spent on next day shipping and garlock gaskets i coulda built a L32 up and swapped that in

Re: somethings up in the front cover-UPDATE
Hey on a different note, I was reading a mustang mag article about the gains in hp between high compression boosted and low compression boosted. they were going from around 8.0:1 to 9.8:1 and running aprox. 13lbs of boost and they made a gain of about 23 horsepower vs. the low compression boosted. Just thought i'd share.
Re: somethings up in the front cover-UPDATE
Well i purchased an L26. I've kinda been wanting one but never had a reason. The piston is most likely my fault. I had been tuning timing and I'm pretty sure i got too greedy. It didn't have a blip of knock until i added 3 degrees(1 at a time of course) and it was only at 5200 rpms right before it shift into third. I was getting hooked on the increased throttle response and mpg going up. I'm thinking that i shouldn't have been collecting data while in boost. That may have saved my engine. I had added timing in 1 degree increments about 6-7 times. The last time I used the Shazam button, which will subtract timing in cells with kr and add where there is none. Eddie said not to use the Shazam buttom, perhaps this is why. Most likely it was not the shazam button that did it but just the amount i had added. Next time I'll be more careful and most likely won't add more than 2-3 degrees on my own and for more try a dyno with a wb to get more.

Re: somethings up in the front cover-Dropped valve
Re: somethings up in the front cover-Dropped valve
dman, I'd drill a damn hole in that valve and put that sucker on my key chain for all the work it made me do. I see you have been in your heads allready by looking at your valve seals. What are your plans for the head? gunna let a machine shop look at it or just slap a new one on there?
Re: somethings up in the front cover-Dropped valve
Re: somethings up in the front cover-Dropped valve
I took the heads off last winter. I ported them myself and had a 3 angle valve job done on the stock valves. The valves weren't backcut. The engine and everthing on it(assuming) had about 98,000 miles on it. I'm gonna try and get another head, port it and get another 3 angle valve job. I'm gonna replace all the valves on that head with new stock valves .
Does anyone think I shoud replace all the valves?
Re: somethings up in the front cover-Dropped valve
it could be an isolated issue with one valve, but who knows really. I've got a set of valves out of a 68k motor if you're interested and need out of a pinch, but if you are getting a new head then you will probably go with those.
Were you using high valve springs with them?
Re: somethings up in the front cover-Dropped valve
I was using 105's. I'll consider the valves you have, my buddy can get me valves at his price(works at a dealership) so I won't be taking it like Joe schmo. We'll see how far the money goes though.
