I was wondering if anyone has replace the ac condeser on a Grand Prix? If so, is it hard? Is there a how-to somewhere? Or can someone please tell me how to replace it and what I need?

Also, I just recently started to hear a faint hum front the passenger front corner. It consant and doesnt change when the wheels are turned like a wheel bearing. Any ideas as to what it could be?

    Drain coolant
Disconnect and remove radiator (enjoy that part)
    Disconnect and remove condensor.

It's actually very easy. Once you get past how tight it is and how they put the wiring harness in the way.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I've replaced my condenser before. It wasn't real hard, just time consuming. Worst part is maneuvering around the engine wiring harness. You need your condenser of course. Might as well get an A/C o-ring set. I did my radiator and hoses at the same time.

    1. Disconnect battery (posts take an 8mm).
    2. Drain coolant because the radiator is coming out.
    3. Remove dog bones and mounts and let the engine rock back(2 cross bolts take 15mm, 8 mount bolts take 1/2").
    4. Remove the cooling fans(4 bolts take 10mm).
    5. For more room, remove the air box(3 bolts take 10mm).
    6. Remove radiator(2 bolts take 10mm), you might have to do the hoses for room.
    7. Remove the condenser(big ass crescent wrench for the nut).
    8. Install in reverse.

Thanks a lot guys. Im wondering about the four bolts on the core support. Do those come out too? I guess I might as well do a coolant flush while im at it huh? And does anyone know what size o-rings are needed? This is our only car and I cant take it a part and leave it sit to get the o-rings. Will it be tough to reconnect the dog bones if the engine is tilted back?

Again, thank you for the help.

On the o-rings, get the AC ring kit for your model/year and it'll have all that you need plus a few that you can later look at funny.

Core support doesn't come apart. I think you may be talking about the strut brace bar bolts. No use in pulling them TMK.

The bolts Im talking about arent on the braces. Im talking about the four bolts that are right over the radiator/condenser. There are on both sides of the dog bone mounts.

I imagine you could squeeze everything out, but for 8 bolts, why not make your life a little easier. And, if you haven't already done so, now would be a great time to flip your bushings in those mounts that you're removing.

Im still new to moddifing Grand Prix's. This is probably a stupid question. But what will flipping the bushings do? And how do I flip them? Is that the same thing as flipping the dog bone mounts? Do I have to moddify any parts to flip the mounts or bushing?

    dsmuts:
Im not sure what you are refering to, but if its the condenser, then I do need to replace it. Not for room though. I need the a/c to work in our car. This is our only car right now. And with two girls (ages 6 and 3), a baby boy that is 6 weeks old, and my wife, we need a/c in our car. Plus its also my commuter car until we get something for me to drive to work and my commute is 45 min one way(40 miles).

Just check the numerous dog bone flipping threads. Takes 10 minutes to perform. I believe dsmuts was referring to the dog bone mounts. I think the hardest part is getting the stock hose clamps moved off of the radiator hoses. Those things are a real PITA.
