I wanted to pick you guy's brains and see if you can come up with any solutions. I have been trying to get my GTP running right since Saturday. When it is cold, it will idle rough. It’s almost like there is a cam in it (there isn't). When I go to give it gas from a stop, it doesn’t want to go and almost seems like it’s dumping WAY too much fuel in it. It will sputter for a while, then it will finally go. If I jump on it and give it anything more than 1/2 throttle, it will spit and sputter…again, too much fuel. When it gets warm, it will idle better (smaller cam sound) and will start a lot better from a stop. The sputtering at acceleration is still there.
I swapped MAF sensors, TPS, checked and fixed any vacuum leaks… Last night I took it up to my dad’s shop and hooked it up to the scanner. The scanner was saying that it was running really rich, which I knew (gas mileage around 12.5-13) and could smell it. The MAF and TPS readings looked ok. Just for ****s and giggles, I changed the MAF again, but it had the same idle and readings. The upstream O2 readings weren’t right, so we swapped that out and it seemed to work for the idle and it was reading good A/F on the scanner. I thought we fixed it, so we shut it off and cleaned up. I fired it up to leave and it had the same idle again, but maybe not as bad. The sputter when I jump on it is still there though. This morning, it idled fine, but when I went to pull away, it would hardly move at first (spitting and sputtering to a point it almost stalled out). After it got going, it was fine and didn’t have any problems at any stop signs or lights. Top end sputter still there. When I say “jump on it” I don’t mean full throttle or anything like that. Just your normal or a little over normal acceleration to get on an on ramp.
I thought I would see what your thoughts were and if you had any ideas. The only codes it is throwing is for the transmission solenoid not shifting from 2-3 (replacing trans soon). I thought about checking coil packs, wires, plugs…but it seems like a sensor because of the rich condition. Ignition would cause the sputtering at acceleration, but not the rich condition. There is really good fuel pressure too.
Background on engine is, I got it from a friend's friend's wrecked car (97 GTP, same as mine). One in the car I bought was blown (I never ran or drove it). The computer in the car is one from my car (blown engine), not the one that was with the engine I bought. I have access to that computer though, if you think it could be the computer.
A friend of mine thought maybe the tranny code is putting the car in limp mode. Is this possibly what the problem is?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!! Thank you!
