im flirting with the idea of putting a 3.5 pulley on my 04 gtp, of coarse i will do all the recommended mods first, with that being said i started reading into the need for a scan tool to read kr (timing retard?) related to engine knock maybe?

in whole i am sorta confused with the whole issue with these cars and excessive engine knock a well as the use of so many different temps of spark plugs

anyway im my searching i got to thinking about buying a can tool because it seems i would need on to do any major bolt on mods, but then i thought well our current scan tool might be what i need(used mainly to read engine codes after one of my many engines swaps ) its a actron CP9580 model scanner

i really dont know, not trying to ask stupid questions or anything but would this tool read what i would need it to?

also it seems that there are alot of options for headers, kinda hard to sift through them and figure out what would be the best set up price wise, im not afraid to pound at my firewall to avoid o2 sensor contact or anything like that

I'm pretty sure thats the same scanner I have and I don't think it supports KR as one of the PID's... At least on my 98. Easiest way to tell since you have the scanner and the car would be to just plug it up and go into the section that shows all the pid's I guess. I use HPTuners on my car, but its like $500 plus you need a laptop. As far as headers I hear many good things about speed daddy headers and at like 210 shipped you can't beat the price. I have OBX headers, DO NOT BUY OBX!!! I had to cut and weld the crossover in two spots.... And for plugs, a 3.5 is kinda on the border of the al 104's and al 103's, run the 4's if you can for a hotter spark but the 3's would be safer.

Get Speed Daddy Headers from eBay for $220 shipped.

And buy an Aeroforce ScanGauge to always have in your car. It's not bad to get another scanner that gives more/better info, but the Aeroforce is almost mandatory if you're going to drop a pulley size.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

i really feel stupid now, looking on ebay nothing comes up for speed daddy let alone with the words grand prix, also will the 97-03 grand prix headers work on a 04+?

and for the scan gauge does it need to be a gm specific for the Aeroforce?

Absolutely. The Aeroforce website will tell you which one to purchase.

I would get a used powrtuner in the for sale section instead, you will want to tune your pcm with that pulley and you can also scan for KR, although not all of the time but if your tune is in place, you don't have to watch out for KR always.

You don't have to know how to tune to get started, you can use one of the dhp 1.5 files to begin

new aeroforce + box tune pcm = $300+

used powrtuner = 300 bucks shipped.
