hey all, have a quick question i have basic mods on my car WITH a dyno tune, and i had the tune back in december with a cold air intake, but the thrasher intake is kinda ****ty and isnt really keeping anything out debris wise, and i doubt the temperature is much lower with a CAI, would i have any problems with knock or anything if i ran open cone?

There's only one way to know about knock... SCAN!

an open or HAI in the engine will not be as good as a CAI or FWI. it will suck in hot air and probably cause some knock but there is no way to tell without a scan. its not always a huge drop in performance but some notice it more than others.

i never knew it would make that much of a difference, after all wouldnt the hot air just stay inside the box? is it noticeably louder with an open cone?

Worrying about intake's is like worrying about what flavor skittles you want to get at the gas station....

At the end of the day , you want the biggest possible filter you can find on there.

You really need a larger filter than the 9"x4" that fits in a CAI box?

the tubing going into the CAI box causes a restriction in flow in comparison to an open cone. you want as much ability to flow as you can.

On our cars more airflow is better than colder airflow. because even with a "cold air" intake the air is still going to be pretty hot. it flows way better with open cone. and you can hear the blower wine a bit more which is nice
Open cone, SSAC headers, cat delete, 8.5 MSD wires, 3.4 zzp mps, 180*, 104's, ported blower, DHP canned tune, 19" XXR 962s, DNA springs.

If you're in the city it makes a difference.

But what kind of driver are you if you're racing people in the city and need that last bit of power just to beat the guy....

I would say the track is more comparable to city racing, wouldn't you?

I just don't see how 50* higher intake temps is negligible (what I saw on the highway all the way back from work today)

so if i take the box out and just run open cone i wont have any problems? main reason i wanna do it is to make the whine a little louder, but i dont wanna have problems with knock since my car is already tuned...

How would an intake mess up a stock car?
