hey des19, Iam new to this site but been a Mechanic for years and know the 3800 pretty well, not the best but as good as the rest. The lowest I would go is 3.6 and have it tuned to see if you have any KR. Headers and exhaust in my opinion do nothing for this motor, other than run a little cooler and help get some KR down. The exhaust ports on the motor are really restrictive so putting exhaust on without getting a cam, rocker arms, or porting the heads is really a waste. I have an 05 GTP comp g, with ported heads and a bunch of other mods that I did all myself and put a 3.5 pulley on. Believe it or not I lost boost, the car has 5psi now at wot, where it should have around 8psi. So getting ready to get a 3.3, to 3.4, dont know just yet.

    Orly?

so the 20whp or so we gain from headers on stock heads is not worth doing?

I agree best bang for the buck would be camming but we have cams to open up stock heads nicely too.

headers are so worth it. The front manifold is so restrictive it aint even funny.

They allow the motor to breath, just like any headers do.

Sure head work helps alot too, and with all that done, you will loose boost psi, because it flows better.

Id start check your BBV if your boost is has fallin that much with a pulley drop to a 3.5 on a GEN V.

And not having headers on a GEN V car with a 3.5 is asking for trouble, that blower is alot better than the gen 3. I guessing your knocking pretty good and maybe end up with chipped piston soon.
