Well first off this is my first W-body and I love it. I have always had trans ams and this is a nice change for me. More room, more comfortable, better on gas, and it is still quick. Here is the rundown. I bought a 98 black GTP with 100000 miles. I bought it cheap because it has some minor issues. First off, the back windows will not go up and down by the switch, you can move them by hand. I pulled the door panels off and the cables are really loose. I read the how to on fixing the cables, is this the problem. I am used to track systems and motor arms not cables.
2nd problem, the sunroof is cocked up in the passenger rear. Pull the headliner and put it back on track?
3rd. The car starts and runs great, it just had the valve cover recall done before I bought it. Under moderate to heavy acceleration it misses bad, is it just the plugs and wires or is it a common problem on these cars? Some background on this, I spent about 10 minutes today trying to diagnose the problem. I pulled a spark plug and it was a Delco, looked like iridium and almost new, looks like new delco wires as well, checked the gap at .60. Is this right, do I have to run iridiums or can I run side gapped copper plugs like in my ls1 and if so what is the part number? Do I have to put those metal heat shields back on the plug wires?
Also the check engine light is not on and has not come on. While looking at it today, it looks like there is a bit of oil sitting on top of the manifold and it is wet around one of the injectors. You would think that if this was left over from the valve cover change(less than 1000 miles ago) it would have burned off, correct me if I am wrong or should I just pull the injector and change the oring? Could this be the problem?
Like I said guys I am new to this body and I hope Y'all can help out a rookie a little bit. Also I live in Denton(north of Dallas, TX) Anyone got any parts close to me or are there any local clubs

    First, welcome to the community.

Second, I'll defer to others hopefully stepping in here and helping you out with the issues you posted about. However, I will say something about the side gapped plugs because I use them. You cannot buy them, you have to sotra make them. Just buy the Autolite copper core plugs for your car, side gap them and then put them in if you want to go that route, but I know of no one that sells side gapped plugs in the way you are thinking of them.

Just wipe the oil off and clean it up with some carb cleaner or something, then watch and see if it comes back.

As far as it being wet around the injectors, yeah that sounds like you probably need to pull it and replace the O-Ring, but if your going to take the time to pull the fuel rail off to do so you might as well just replace all six of them.

As for plugs and wires, if you want to leave the little heat shields off, just buy yourself a set of aftermarket wires and do so. Also pick up some Autolite 104 copper plugs and just put them in, they are pre-gapped and do not need to be messed with.

for the rear windows....sounds like the previous owner took them off the motor...or broke a gear..... your able to pull them up by hand....they are still on track...just they are not connected to the motor assembly.

    Yea,
But there is a loose cable in both of the doors. I am only familiar with windows with motor arms not this cable system. How do I get the sunroof back in Track?

for the sun room. i took the bolts out for both sides then pulled it off to start fresh. there is a little pin that holds it in track. tap that out, not all the way out but so you can get the sunroof into posistion then when you got it in posistion tap the pin back into posistion and into the track then tighten the bolts back down.

I just got my recall stuff done. They jacked my car up! It started idling real bad. I changed the plug and wire and now it only idles bad when it's in gear. When you figure out whats wrong with it, let me know.lol. I had to fix my windows also. My husband was just like you. Not familier with the cable style. You still got your TA?

Well I figured out the idling problem. The back left plug wire was left loose by the dealership for one. I also pulled the throttle body off and you would not believe the carbon buildup that was in there. Probably 1/4 inch(lady driven since new I guess) Anyways I cleaned it up and as much of the inside of the intake as I could and it was like a whole new car. Seriously it felt like I went from a NA to a SC just from taking care of those two things. I got the sunroof back on track but it makes a grinding noise now when it tries to open. The drivers side of the track goes faster than the passenger and binds up? Any Ideas. I read the tutorial on the window fix and it worked on one side. I have to order a regulator for the other side though(cables were too messed up to rewind back into the sprocket and of course GM does not sell just the cables. They want 312 for the regulator though.LOL. Oreillys 145.99 with motor. Yes I still have a TA with a bad wrist pin though. Time for a 6.1 swap. Anyways thanks for the help guys
