in my other posts i have mentioned having engine noise. i am gunna put it bak together and drive tilll she blows. in the meantime a guy i know has a 60,000 motor that had a BAD knock. that motor never saw an oil change. the heads alone are woth a hundred bucks. i wanna know, what am i getting myself into? how much am i looking at for a lower end rebuild? as he says the top is still good. here goes, i not really looking for a "built" motor, some more umph is good, but not for an extra grand. cheap is not always good, but the cheapER the better. i would like to make this motor somewhat bulletproof... but i am on a college and part time salary but in the end there is nothing like driving a car with a motor you rebuilt, i can picture a huge grin on my face when she fires up the first time an i cruisin down the road. so shoot me ideas, what would YOU do? cam? intercooler and smaller pulley suffice for cheaper power? im completly new to this. i just took my first intake off last week.

theses motors are a dime a dozen, to me its not really worth it to spend more money to re-build them.

A motor out of a running car is some much easyer and just about 9 times out of 10 cheaper than fully rebuilding one.

If you wanna go cheap, stay away from modding a bad motor

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

yup.motor is OUT of a 01 bonniville. i just thought it may be cheaper to buid one up once and get a hundred k out of it rather than swappin a $500 motor every summer? that and i would like to get the experience and actually see what is in these things. just ballpark me on what a rebuild would include and price-wise. i may be scared of it then.

just gonna point out that if your avatar is your car you will most likely have a series 3 and an 01 bonni will be a series 2 if I am not mistaken so...... why?
