I justed installed speed daddy headers on my 01 gtp. There is a high speed ticking noise now comeing from the engine. my friend and I didn't use rvt copper or band clamps. My question is what size band clamps should I get and how many?? And were is the most common area's were people use the rvt??? Can I put some between the block and header???

u need rtv at every joint on the headers and band clamps at all the joints too.

The tick is likely the single wall flexpipe. Try wrapping it with header wrap. If the noise goes away, it's flex. If not.. start looking for the leak.

FWIW, I have never used RTV on any customer install or my own and have never had a leak. RTV IMO is just something that can look sloppy if not done well and more to clean when you pull things apart later.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

RTV is recommended by most, but if you get the right bands and torque them down right, it should be solid and won't leak

^^^ Notice the groove... you want those... not sure off hand how many you will need... 1 for each connection point

TL.. I'll use nearly any clamp. Typically I suggest the Torca style clamps.

RTV is for people that are never gonna mod again.

Most people can use just any clamp but with those notches I figure itll make it easier for the less experienced. Buds use band clamps without RTV for headers on f-bodies and never get leaks. just gotta do it right

speed daddys arent the nicest headers around but they work.. i dont see how u could get away without using rtv unless u welded every joint.. but for the price my SD's work fine.

When you guys weld your pipes together...... do you just do a couple spot welds or to you weld 360 around the pipe. The cross over doesn't have much room by the rear header

It let me run a blower on a high comp motor.

    So not much by itself.

    Sounds terrible. 3800's always do.

As for the clamps. the first picture has the right bolt area style but they dont need to be stepped, when you tighten them they stretch to the right shape.

bluegtp91 said someone put a set on a bone stock regal or bonne and got 20whp from just the headers.. as for welding... i welded everything under the car and left the crossover joints with RTV and band clamps.
