I got tired of not getting any good answers so i started tearing my motor down in my garage and i found so many problems its not even funny. First thing i fount is that my throttle body gasket was bad and coolant was leaking up into my supercharger, then a not good hole in my lower intake, bad lower intake gaskets, bad head gaskets, and a big a** crack in in my back head, and a bad map sensor. It was awesome. So i started ordering parts, got me some cnc ported heads with 105# valve springs, machined lower intake manifold then i ported and polished it, and also machined and ported my supercharger, 3.4 pulley, and zzp pcm. I already have headers with a 3in dp ubend delete and a short pos autozone intake. And now im wondering what should i do next im thinking cam or short stack ic and a smaller pulley. What you guys think? Oh ya i didn't have my 3.4 pulley on in this pic

if you already have the stronger springs and ported heads, definitely cam it. no reason not to. i've heard nothing good about short stacks.

sounds like you had a hell of gasket problem, i bet that was a mess.

Looks like you did a nice job on the rebuild. I’m curious; could you describe where the head was cracked?

I dunno why people keep talking bad about the ss intercoolers. I've had mine on for over a year now and the only problem i had was the pump go out.

My head was cracked right in the middle of #4 i wish i had a pic of it cuz it was narly i dont even know how my car was still running, but i ran some bars stop leak in it for a long time, before i knew anything about motors, dont ever use that sh** it gets everywhere and its terrible. The stock plastic lower intake gaskets are crap i would suggest everyone to replace them with the aluminium ones. Is the vs cam a good one cuz ive seen videos of the xp cam and the cars always run normal for a bit and then rev up and i dont want that.

Hmm.. By chance did this crack form between the intake and exhaust valve recesses?

if so, then that is super common the heads were still fine to use.

Short Stack cores warp. They suck. They heat soak as bad as a non-intercooled car.

I guess I'm just lucky then because mine hasn't warped, and almost always stays at a constant temp of 180-185 even while sitting still for long periods of time

That's engine temp...I'm talking about the core itself. There isn't a lot of material so it soaks easily. If i had a car that came with a short stack I'd get a full size core and swap them out.

Ah ok I gotcha. I think I'll keep the core i got. I'm savin up for a tuner now so I can get the desperate tune my engine needs. If something goes wrong with the short stack ill probably end up getting a full size

It cracked on the intake valve and it was stuck half open. So your saying just go for a full size ic?

If you've got the money go with the full size. That's the main reason i didn't. Figured out id spend the other 600 bucks on a cam and whatnot. Then again that was before I read up about people's views on different intercoolers as well. But it's up to you the short stack has worked out for me so far. In retrospect if i could do it again id probably get a full size.

Im happy with my short stack. I run a high compression build, 3.25 pulley with 19wot timing zero to blips of KR 11.8-12.0 AFR 93 pump gas on a SSIC headered setup.....oh and stock valve train.

It obviously isnt going to be as good as a fullsize.

So i was driving the car today and it started making a weird noise at about 3000 to 4000 rpm sounded kinda like a really fast tapping and its got me really nervous the car has 197*** miles on it and i just built the top end and did nothing to the bottom. What could this be rod bearing maby? Im scared lol

keep in mind the crank is spnning twice as fast as the cam. i've heard a couple rod knocks, they're really deep and give me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. you might have a bad lifter. sound clip?

also, rod bearings going bad leave silver streaks in the oil. you could drain it and see if you see any

I cant get a sound clip i tried and i couldn't hear it, and i dont have any extra money right now so draining the oil is prolly not gonna happen, the sound is a light scraping/ tapping/ grinding noise
