Thread: fist time porting blower (pics)

So i picked up a spare blower off craigslist for cheap and decided to try my hand at porting and polishing it was a realy ugly red.

Smoothed the inlet should i fill in the divot with some jb weld or just leave it? Also im not running egr so im thinking about just plugging that hole as well.



I decided i hate the red and got some aircraft stripper, removed the red and painted the case with some vht wrinkle black



The aircraft stripper started to pull the coating off the snout so i decided i would just try to polish it.

Took longer than i even want to think about and my fingers are still hurting from sanding in between the ribs.
Im probably going to be putting it on the car this weekend so if anyone has any tips on something i should touch up for the porting let me know.

I am kinda proud i had to post it lol. the aircraft stripper didnt realy pull it all off it just made it look all nasty and i didnt want to put it on the car like that. i did not know at the time that the snout was the hardest part to polish or i might not have done it it literally took forever.

Real nice work! You must have a lot of patience.

To do this i used a lot of diff stuff

first i had to get the paint off
air craft stripper to loosen the paint then got there rest off with sandpaper and flapper wheels.

Then i had to remove all the major imperfections i used a dremel and dremel tools be carfull dont want to make low spots they are hard to get out later
dremel
flapper wheels 80 and 2 120 grain
2 high speed cutting bits i guess they are
a bunch of sanding drums
grinding bit/ looks like its made out of a rock
wire brushes/ for the corners and groves

Then once the whole surface was pretty level used sand paper to smooth it out started with 100 then 200 300 wetsand with 400 500 600 1000 1500 2000. i had to go back up to 100 2 times because i didnt get all the scratches out and they realy started to show up when i got to ther higher grits.

Once i got it level i busted out the polishing compounds started with emerys then tripoli then white rough i used a buffing pad on a high speed drill for what i could easly get to then a buffing pad on the dremel for the corners and use diff pad for each compound the longer u take the better its going to look.
Wear a mask aluminum dust is pretty bad for you and eye and ear protection wouldn't be a bad idea. also i wouldn't even try it if u are not patient took me forever.
I got mad respect for reptile for his blower work i donno if i would do another one.

finally got to see pictures now that im not at work. nice port job. simple and effective, just how it should be. you didnt open up the outlet anymore than you should have and you did a good job. congrats.

What did you use to port that inlet? Just a dremel?

it looks really good. i wanna do somthing simmilar to mine but idk if i should polish my whole blower or just the snout then paint the housing black then sand down the ribs where there is paint and then polishing those up

Looks good!! Now polish the rest of the blower lol. Thats a really good port job for your first stab at it lol you should see mine.. pretty bad haha
