Did you re-tune for the intake change? What AFR were you running WOT? If you do not know this because you do not have a wideband gauge, then you have absolutely no valid argument and no reason to being "ambient air temps" into this before mentioning AFR. AFR is GOD.

My best guess would be that your car was tuned for a cai or fenderwell by your tune vendor, so when you stuck an open cone on it, you got too much air in and ran too lean. So when you stuck a box on, it's air restriction "fixed" your wrong tune by letting you scoot the AFR a tad richer, allowing the engine to make more power.

Edit: I want to make sure I'm getting the right idea across: Until your build is extreme, I do not believe that either intake is a superior performer by its own merits. Rather, it is the tune, which dictates the AFR, that will decide what kind of power/power-failure [read: knock ->timing retard] you make.
Well seeing how your argument completely disagrees with everyone else in this thread I would say you're wrong. Bio, blue and Matt have all said my intake is not a restriction at my point in modding. So you are saying they are all wrong as well?

I have a canned tune that was ordered while I had the HAI and I told Will to tune it for the HAI, so if anything I would be even faster with a better tune for my CAI.

I do not have a wideband, wideband tune or tuner so I do not know my AFR, I only know how much timing im running because my buddy tuned out my KR and gave me a MAF tune. He just got the tuner not too long before he did this for me.

Overall I know a decent bit of ppl running WizAired intake on their fairly decent modded cars. One of which has an XPZ, stage 4 ZZP heads, 3.0 Gen 3 with OD balancer (so basically a 2.8), 20* timing with no KR setup and he says he will never switch to a HAI. I would be willing to live with his setup, he seems to be doing "okay" with his WizAired intake.

the real fact of the matter is that we dont know if it is a restriction or not. we just assume once you start dropping pulleys and the motor starts pulling large amount of vacuum in the intake you should just negate all the problem areas and make it as free flowing as possible. honestly from a short ram to fenderwell to an open cone (with a tune to compliment each) i bet there wouldnt be a large divergence in power made on the same motor.

    His point is.

If you have the same car tuned to the exact same AFR both times with each intake, then and only then is the comparison fair.

This is the same reason I had to lol at the dyno testing of it. there was no retune and the open cone setup ran leaner thus more power.

Also saying that because our opinions/experiences say one thing, it can't be wrong is unfair. Any of us could have missed an underlying issue.

For example, in this case, AFR.
