autolite 605's, 180 tstat, homemade CAI/FWI can all be done for under $100. Removing the engine cover dropped my engine temps quite a bit which helps prevent kr.

Did the removal of the engine cover help / drop your temps that much?

You could always remove the throttle body screen.... but GM put it in there to straighten the air flow comming to the MAF, ive done to mine, but some ppl say they have a rougher idle... I havent had any problems (knocks on wood).

I've seen a lot of problems come from removing the MAF screen. I'd suggest leaving it, as you don't really gain anything (pressure drop across it from a flow test is negligible).

I would not go with 5%. You will most likely get a ticket soon after you have them done. Plus it will be very hard to see out of your windows. I have 20% all around. My front two windows are illegal (must be 35% I believe) and in my mind that is perfect. I still can see out of my windows but I still get the tint I wanted.

Keep the MAF screen in place. You'll have more problems tuning with it out, been there done that leave it alone.

As for cheap mods for you...

    -Autolite 605 @ .060.............. $10
-Borg/Warner Plug Wires..........$35 (I'd recommend doing these at the same time you do the plugs)
-180 T-stat + Coolant Flush............$20 (i'd recommend a PCM soon after for the fan settings)
    -Voltage Booster...........................$10
    -Alternator Rewire.........................$10
    -Homemade Open Cone..................$50
    -Remove S/C Cover.......................Free
    -Remove Rear Hood Weather Strip....Free
    -Clean up Factory Grounds..............$5

Theres a few easy ones right there for you...

Yea, I pulled mine out and you'd swear I had one heck of a cam in it. And it kept throwing a trouble code too. So ended up putting it back in.

Yea, they say it depends on the car. Some have no ill affect with it outand some do like me. It was nice sitting at a light and some punk pull up beside me and I rev at him, but he'd shake his head and say from the sound of the car he had no chance. But little did he know it was just a rough idle.lol!!!
