I have a 04 Comp G with a CAI and 1.9 rockers, and would love to modify the stock exhaust since I can't hear the car at all, so here is my question:

Will installing an offroad downpipe and custom made (wider diameter) exhaust system along with deleting the cats throw the car into limp mode without a tuned PCM? Or will it run without any major issues other than not getting the most power out it?

    Thanks for the help

skip the downpipe and buy headers.

The sound should change a little and you will get more HP, than the downpipe. And changing the catback system will only change sound, not power. Mufflers will change the sound.

How much are headers running for?

Will it make the car go into limp mode or no?

How can you not hear the car with a CAI and a gen V?

You can do whatever you want with the exhaust short of making it more restrictive and making it leaky and you'll be okay PCM wise.

Headers wont do much for your sound.

    Start with mufflers.

    Leave the resonator there.

But try some Borla XS muffs. They seem to work well with our cars.

Headers made my car louder. I liked the way my car sounded without them personally. But I like the performance of them.

The interior is alot quieter than my previous car. I can hear the whining when I get on the throttle but otherwise its really quiet, its even hard to tell the car is on with idling.

I would suggest headers and then maybe do mufflers. Once you delete the cat, get different mufflers and run headers, you will only make yourself want to like the sound but after a while the highway drone gets old and in the end it sounds like crap WOT because its still a 3800. The only decent exhaust note from these cars is by keeping stock mufflers, going with headers and a nice big resonator. The borla xs do sound nice, but they don't make up for everything else.

Or a turbo instead of a resonator.
