So I was at NAPA the other day getting myself a new fuel pump since the one I bought at W-Body store has been intermittently failing and I couldn't keep getting stranded on the side of the road. When I asked the gentleman at the counter for a FP for a 99 GTP he said the NFP P74792M is made for both Vin 1 and Vin k cars. Obviously I have a VIN 1 car but I just find it weird that it would be the same for a NA car and a FI car. So obviously in a pinch I purchased the FP and it's in my car. Anyone know the differences if any in the VIN 1/VIN K fuel pumps?

So the actual volume of the pump itself or do you mean the volume of gas?

So what I don't get is why NAPA would sell me a fuel pump that is the same part for two different types of engines with one obviously requiring more volume. Buh, they probably won't let me return it since it's been in my tank already due to me NEEDING a fuel pump ASAP.

the pn you gave the other day (P74792M) is for a K / NA car so you probably still need a fuel pump.

from the napa page for that part...

Application Information: 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
    Engines : 3.8 L 231 CID V6
    Engine VIN Codes : K
Comments: Due to Electrical Requirements, Fuel Pump Wiring Harness Replacement is Strongly Recommended
    Per Car Qty: 1

    Engines : 3.1 L 189 CID V6

You needed a pump that was about $100 more than what you spent (DFP FG0151 or equivalent). There is no "napa pump" for the SC car.

your fuel gauge might be off as well with this pump.

just my two cents... but you could just get a walbro pump they adv. 100-130$ and swap pumps in the carriage... thats what i did but make sure you get a new flex hose like the ones from w-body store
99 Black GTP 3.25 sc pulley, E85 fuel conv., 3" DP w/ hi flo conv., walbro FP, 180 stat, FW intake, zzp pcm, 104s plugs, AMSOIL, AEROSHELL Turbine oil for SC oil
