When I had our shop put some tires on my car...they asked me if I wanted the recall done. I told them to just give me the parts. I was kind of shocked when they gave me those wire clips.

so what exactly is the recall supposed to address?

I am scheduled to have it done on my 98 GTP, but now I am thinking not to.

From reading the bulletin, it sound like all the problem is are the vc gaskets. I have been smelling oil smoke/burning oil for a bit now, and was going to replace them anyways. Then I get this.

    Thoughts?
If all else fails, throw money at it..... that'll fix it.

So what exactly are they claiming to replace? I replaced my valve cover gaskets awhile back , so from what I see from everybody else, I should be good right? Is this for just the GTP's or GT's also? Just curious, I have one of each.

GM has said it only affects the L67. Regardless, I'm keeping an eye on my VC gaskets on my L36.

gm said they are supposed to replace the front valve cover gasket with a thicker style gasket to alleviate the concern of "oil sloshing" over and on to the manifold, not adding wire clips, i think somebody got screwed at their dealership.

What I got in the mail mentioned the wire guides.

    Upcoming Recall/07035 97-03 GP & Regal 3800 S/C vin 1 - GM Inside News Forum

The dealership that did mine certainly didn't follow that though. There was still oil sloshed all over the valve cover and chunks of old gasket too in and around it. I suspect they propped it up and slid the new gasket in so they didn't have to remove the belts and such....
