I thought the bolt patterns were the same... just the added room for the injectors.

Thanks guy all this info is great and makes me want to do some mods myself. Don't want to get to carried away as my son will proly get this car in 2 years when he is 16!?!?

That ought to solve your problem...

Its not because the covers are thin.... its because the gasket was compressed and no longer making a seal.

Get new gaskets and new grommets and you'll be okay.

Last time I checked the plastic composite valve covers were A LOT more money then metal ones, including aluminum.

Just thought I'd throw that into the mix.

I've seen the same thin condition on my valve covers (near the injectors).

The leaking condition was fixed by a new gasket/grommet job. There was nothing wrong with the composite gaskets (that was causing the leaking).

Unless you want a prettier valve cover, the OEM composite ones will be fine (even with the thin wall condition).

Not sure how many people know this or Replied, But The front valve cover gasket is recalled on all the 3800S/C Motors, Bring it to you local pontiac dealer and they'll fix it for free.

Guy, new gaskets are useless without good grommets. Might as well get them all and do them all properly and forget about it for a while.

so wen i change my gaskets there are grommets i need to buy also or does it all come in one kit??

i think for l67's its easier to get everything and for l36 its easier to get them separately.

mine is not s/c so which is that ?

I have replaced the front valve cover with a used one that was in better condition than mine. I used felpros gasket with some silicone. I hand tightened the bolts, so as not to over torque. Still getting oil around the top side of the cover. Thinking how oil gets up, I replaced the PCV valve, changed the oil and cleaned the area around the cover. It still looks like I am getting a bit of oil around the top side still. Any Ideas??

Alsooo, while attempting to replace the rear cover I was removing the housing that has the heater line for the heater core. the line that goes into the engine block is now seeping anitfreeeze. I did not completely remove this line because I was not prepared at the time for this to come off and did not have the fluid drained. Is there a gasket/ o-ring for this and what exactly would I ask for?

Found out it was not the VC that was leaking it was the lower and upper intake manifolds.
