Hello im going to check out a 97 gtp coupe tomoro its 700 it runs and drives but has been parked since august becouse of a oil leak but its supposedl not bad becouse im test driving it tomoro i could really use in put never owned a pontiac let alone a gtp so anything to look for that is specific too these also just got out of a 5.0 mustang so whats fuel economy like in this car, i can tolerate only as low mpg if the car is equally fast. thanks

lots of MPG if its in good shape and you drive like a grandma.

15 MPG in town if you beat on it.

I would be cautious about that oil leak.

It could be a front cover or a rear main. A shop could charge 400 - 700 depending to fix a rear main.

Once he gets it running check and see where its leaking from and see if it gets worse if someone revs it to 2500.

A oil pan is also bad enough you need to lower the k frame or lift the motor slightly. Also around 500 bucks at a shop.

Also be sure that the trans shifts ok, and that it goes into overdrive. I'd pull the trans dipstick and check the color/smell of the fluid. Also check the oil for coolant mixing (looks like milkshake or mud).

Oil leak could be a valve cover (or covers). Look to see if the CEL is lit, and if so have it scanned.
