So i've got the car back from the Stealership for $40 bucks labor lol...anyways they put it on the lift and showed me how my Cat sounded like pennies in a glass jar! They say I need a new cat and new resinator ( which runs the rest of the exhaust all the way to the mufflers too )...anyways $1600 in parts alone!!! F-that... new cat at autozone is $250...

another sad thing is the cat warrenty is 8years/80k miles, I have 89K

Big question here...does the resinator really need to be replaced? I mean is that a problem? I can't see it being an issue, even if the cat did shred...

    thanks guys...

    1600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No the res will not need to be replaced, they are just trying to rape you and get away with it. If you really wanted to you can just cut it out and replace it with a galsspack and pipe along with the cat.

go to an exhaust shop and get a universal magnaflow catalytic ordered and installed. Will still be cheaper than the $250 at autozone.

^^ I expected that from you bio lol

alright so the gunk from the cat isan't harming the rest of the exhaust? I've been having trouble starting and random engine shut-offs for a while...The cat rattles bad, it's toast...God I hope a new cat fixes everything and no more worries, for now...

there is a weld-in magna listed on Autozone for $91...

lets say there is alot of debree in the muffles n such, it can't be that bad that it will cause huge amounts of backpressure, would it?

you will be totally fine just replacing the cat....and worst case scenario if for some odd reason it still wasn't right you can go back to the exhaust shop and have them do a resonator too (in which case I would recommend just doing a glasspack) thats what I did and it was only $20 at advance for the glasspack, compared to a $60 resonator...Didn't change the exhaust note though, it got a little quieter on stock mufflers

I think newer resonator the better.

well I changed the cat today...it's queiter, sounds better and got some of my power back. engine still doesn't want to idle correctly at start-up...but it's not a big issue cause it corrects itself pretty fast.
