well i've been driving the GP for two weeks or so now waiting for the title to get tags for the firebird. it's here, and hopefully things will go smoothly at the bmv tomorrow, and if it does...

i'm starting this f*cking build. it's been over a year, i don't even wanna know how much money. I've torn down multiple 3800's, so i'm not really worried about that part. it's a pretty simple motor. any useful links are much appreciated, mainly where the subframe bolts are, or at least what size i should be looking for. i still don't have headers or the wiring harnesses, and i'll probably take it down to milzy for tuning later this month. but dammit i'm ready to get a wrench on this thing

***** bolt is removed, fuel rails, egr, upper intake manifold delete. not quite as far as i wanted to get, but i'll put a dent in it tomorrow

top end is completely disassembled. need a harmonic balancer puller before i can go much further. seeing as how my license is suspended and i can't get one, i'll probably just drop the exhaust tonight and clean up. it's been a productive three days off turns out all my exhaust valves are burnt. i'm guessing it's related to going through 3 MAF sensors in the past 40,000 miles. good thing it'll be going to a tuner, hopefully i'll get a diagnosis there. a few pics for your enjoyments:

nick, with a ported blower, what should i do about the ends of the bolts protruding into the opening?

Cut the bolts, Philly.

I bought shorter bolts. Or you could use washers. Put some RTV in there too or you could have a vacuum leak.

Mine was covered in it anyway. Plus, its technically after the rotors. and its soft.

And the supercharger oil eats it up...and the heat breaks it down...and creates leaks after time.

What your looking for is a small blue tube of ANEBROIC SEALER.

NOT RTV.

i was afraid you were gonna say that. i don't have a vice or anything lol. i'm thinkin i have to borrow a cut-off wheel to get my downpipe separated from the resonator, i might just do it then

Buy new bolts Jesus. My stepdad actually works at combine factory and got them for me for free.

factory cam has been removed. my vacation's coming up next week, i'm hoping to have the front cover back on and heads on by the end of it. i get to bust out the new torque wrench. what's the best way to get the back header on? i thought about trying to bolt it to the head before i put it on the block, but that seems less than maneuverable. and i don't have the headers... also, am i stuck going to a GM dealer for intake manifold bolts?

got to a point where i think i'm gonna be for awhile. s2x cam is in, double roller installed, and front cover bolted back on. i can't buy anything until i know what's up with school this quarter, my financial aid hasn't come through. so right now it's sitting there with the subframe on jackstands torn down to the shortblock... sad face.

on another note, i changed the oil in the firebird today. the underside of the LT1 looked just like the 350 smallblock in the 78 camaro/91 S-10. don't mess with what works i guess

Set the back header in place (make sure you put a towel over the exposed block so you dont scratch it)

put head gasket on

place head on

bolt it down

bolt on rear header. Its not as hard to get to as you think.
