^^^probably the one zzp DIDNT tune
Lies. My car was the funnest when it was an XP cam + ZZP S2 intercooler setup (among other mods) with a best trap of 111 on my 3.69 gearing. I could get 2.0 60ft all day long but never once ran slicks.Quote:
If you have seen a 3.69 geared supercharged car its beyond overkill
The fastest non-intercooled GP ever (or second fastest maybe) ran 3.73 gearing on an Intense cam and trapped 115-118.
Thanks for all the good info on this thread. I am really looking to keep the modding budget at max $2K given this car is serving winter duty (5-6 months).
Some refinement to the list with approx prices -
Short Ram Intake - 100
Headers - 250
Overkill Tune - 400
Pulley upgrade - 150
Backyard SC porting - 150 (gaskets and grinding bit)
Plugs -50
Wires - 80
T stat 180 - 10
Xp Hot Cam - 400
Total about $1,590
Do I need injectors? TB upgrade?
I want to keep stock gearing as I commute in this car and keeping the RPM's lower on the highway will keep gas mileage decent.
Oh yeah gotta try and take my buddies 03 540i 6spd out :) he traps around 104MPH
and dude, overkill charges $200 for a local custom in car tune with a wideband....
$250 if he has to travel.
And speed daddy headers will be $300+ by the time you pay for shipping, duty, taxes etc.
S/C porting should cost you $5 for a bit at princess auto and $17.02+ tax at crappy tire or partsource for the s/c gasket.
Plugs are $25 from crappy tire or partsource, cheaper if you get them from kuntzie.
But you want coppers for sure.
wires can be had for less, a lot less...
$50 taxes in at P/S for the NGK wires, not they'll handle being installed and removed a bunch of times, but no wire will. Lifetime warranty FTW.
XP cam is $325+ shipping + crow cam 105's which are $125 ish? modded retainers are $45, and new valve seals are $19, new timing chain is $36 from zzp,
Then this gasket kit with new crank bolt, cam bolt and vc gaskets is $130
$50 filter?
So a much more realistic total is: ~$1500
Keep in mind this is what you NEED to run that cam. Dont get comp cams springs, they suck and might break on you. Nothing better than a dropped valve.
And this would be safe till 6000ish.
Apparently the stock balancer isnt "safe" past 6200 and neither are the pushrods, and neither are 105's on an XP as per tengis so double roller and 130's if you wanted to rev higher.
matt5112 - great information, in the end we were $90 off :)
FFDP -Today I paid $70 for a brand new 7 inch cone K&N from PS. Mind you were are talking CDN funds where the dollar doesn't go quite as far as yours and our prices always seem to be a bit higher.
you may very well break something and need to spend that $90 elsewhere so I'd budget 2 grand to be safe.
Then consider you might want to invest in a scan gauge as well just to ensure you have no knock because if you're running an L67 then you're prolly gonna be running a 3.25" pulley which means not much room for KR.

You know...you can do that yoslef.
you could trap 105 easily for under 3k installed going turbo
He said turbo it...what else is there to hear?
Orly? Well how about this...unless your good at fabbing everything from the ground up, your better off saving your money and buying a Z3 kit from ZZPerformance...I've heard nothing but good things about it. I'd save for a transmission anyways...your gonna obliterate your stocker.
You got all of this advice for free and this is how you react? You're funny. :th_yawning:
You can pick up used turbo kits on the cheap. Just make sure they're not ****ed up like the cartuning one on here that needs a new turbo.
And then you'll need to drop 2-4 grand on a transmission that will stand up to any DECENT turbo kit.
So move to a different platform?
Oh and highway mileage is best with a turbo, not a blower.
110 traps on a Z3 kit and a 135k N/A STOCK TRANS.
On the stock trans for nearly a year now. Everyone saying that it is mandatory is just uninformed. If you take care of the trans it will take care of you. Not saying it will last forever, but it has treated me well up to date.
New Dextron VI every spring
