do a butt load of reading before you pick a cam. do not go the cookie cutter route and pick the XP because everyone and their mom will recommend it. if given a choice i would never pick an XP.

I agree with not using the cookie cutter method. I would still like to be able to use the car as my everyday driver after the cam but I would like to avoid having to do lifters. Push rods and springs I've done and have no problem with, but lifters I have not and have heard that they are a nightmare.

I hope either the trans you have is good or your planning on adding another 1700-2500 for a trans Triple Edge Performance is the way to go for transmissions. I think a 3.4 cammed car would kill a trans if its not solid now. Also I think 3.4 on a gen3 will require an intercooler to run safely also a cam will certianly help with knock so will a good tune. 3.4 pulley, I/C, cam headers and tune would make a pretty solid car. But the next problem will certianly be the stock transmission. If only doing one or the other do a trans NOW and safe the headaches.

The trans that's in the car now seems to be solid, no shavings in the pan or evidence of future problems. I guess I figured if I'm not going to be racing all of the time, seldom would be a good description, the stock trans should be okay...That sucks to here though lol. I guess that brings me to this then, as fond as I am of a cam, will camming the car be the difference between getting rid of my stock tranny and keeping it? I'm fairly certain I know the answer already but better safe then sorry

Only thing i really agree with in this post is The Trans stuff If you dont have a low mileage trans Get one first and yes tripleedgeperformance is the way to go daves great to work with

But a cammed car can run up to a 3.0 pulley with out an intercooler
as long as you have injectors and headers and scan for knock...

Im cammed on stock mani's a 3.4 pulley and zero knock

Im also no a intercooler fan Only due to the fact that it opens the system up for more problems But thats just me many run them and swear by them and they do help make power

As far as lifters go once the rods are out lifters are simple pop them out drop new ones in ten minute job really

fresh fluid and a shift kit may help extend the life of the trans a bit and it all depends how you drive smashing wot from dead stops and such all the time wont help anything lol

If your looking for a hassle free build certianly take the advice of myself and others and either buy a TEP trans or maybe find yourself a used one and still save some money. Both here and the classifieds from CGP have transmissions for sale pretty often. I do also agree on not running a Intercooler however I was suggesting it to be on the safe side and to be sure the car is knock free or its kept to a minimum. A trans and boltons and a tune will really wake the car up with out having to seperate the heads or change the cam. Depends what are the goals 280WHP 330WHP 350WHP all depends. As the saying goes CHEAP FAST RELIABLE you can only pick 2

Okay, I've talked with a buddy and he suggested having a local guy rebuild the tranny for me. Do any of you know whether that is a good idea or not. I could have him build it up for me...If anyone has done this let me know if you saved anything...
