So my 3.4 pulley is finally in the mail, but I'm pretty sure that one month after I had installed it I will want more speed again. So going forward I'm trying to plan on my next mod:

It looks like I basically have 3 options:

    1. 1.9 rockers
    2. camshaft
    3. intercooler

I can't go for the IC for the cost and how complex it is to run and install. So I'm left with rockers and cam. My understanding is that it has to be either cam or rockers, but not both right?

    So here are my questions:

Which one gives more power/reduce KR? I assume the cam. If it's cam, I was thinking of a VS cam so that I don't have to have the rest of the valve train and heads modded. Would you also recommend the VS cam?

Also, do you think I could run a 3.3 or 3.25 pulley with a cam or rockers? possibly will have to port the SC for that too?

    thanks.... again!

    - rockers are the least amount of work, cheapest, and do the least

    - a cam is pretty extensive install wise, but is cheaper than an intercooler and will net about the same gains as one

    - an intercooler is an extensive install, but not a lot of motor work needs to be done

pulley size guessing is useless at this point as it really depends on your location, tune, and how healthy your overall setup is. you can assume that with any of this you can run at least a 3.2 with a good tune.

I say rockers and meth injection. Should be able to let you get away with a 3.25 EASILY. Plus...that is still cheap compared to a cam and/or intercooler.

I'm gonna ask the guy at the shop how much will he charge for installing the cam. Hopefully it's not that much, I would also like to go the camshaft way.

If it's way too expensive, I think that the rockers + METH would be a good plan B.

    Thanks guys.

If you cam it...don't skimp on the build. Get stronger springs so you can rev it up...like 105's.

Should I plan for shift points past 6000 rpm with the VS cam?

I was thinking that zzp reports that the peak perf for that cam is 5800-6100 and the DHP PCM has shift points of 5800-6000. I really don't know what happens when the springs float as you mention in your "safely modding" thread.

They do exactly that...they float...because they aren't strong enough to support the high lift and rpm's and can eventually damage your engine internally if you let it go too long. Youtube valve float...there are some awesome video's on there of it in slo-mo. Here is a nice little excerpt I pulled from the interwebz:

"Floating Valves" refers to a condition in which the valve-springs fail to fully close the valves, allowing them to "float" during the stroke cycle. Floating valves can result in valve-piston contact with consequent catastrophic mechanical damage. This is caused by revving the engine past it's red-line, or the maximum RPMs the engine was designed to run.

As for the VS...you don't need aftermarket valve springs as it isn't a rough enough cam or have the need to shift any higher than 6K...so you should honestly be fine with the stock valvetrain. I only recommend aftermarket springs when you go past 1.84 Roller Rockers/VS Cam or are shifting over 6K. If you go the 1.95 RR Route or the XP/S1X Cam route...then you will NEED at least L76 or Crow 105's with matching retainers.

XP Cam. You'll be way happier If you're gonna cam why not make it worth while. I mean if you're going to pay someone to put it in you might as well put a higher performing cam in 1 time vs having to do it again when you decide that the VS isn't enough power.

The sad part is that with all these mods at this altitude all that I will accomplish is to make my GTP run the same ETs than a stock GTP does at lower altitudes, which is mid 14's ha!
