alright so i've been contemplating a build for my 97 gt.

scenario one - topswap, rebuilt 4t60 with shift kit and an adjustable vacuum modulator giving me considerably greater control over line pressures and shift points.

    scenario two - l67/4t65 swap.

obviously the first scenario would be less expensive, yet i'm leaning toward the latter for reliability reasons. opinions?

yeah so i've heard and having my stock motor around would be a nice backup plan.

i think it'd be easiest to have the l67/32 on a stand while getting everything setup. rather than have my DD down for X amount of days, i could easily do the swap in a weekend.

Because the differential makes that much of a difference?

My buddy's brother keeps telling me that i'm going to blow my transmission up because its not the HD and that the HD is MORE than just a stronger yet still useless differential and a lower final drive ratio.

HD is over rated. non-HD trans is where it's at. Only thing worth a **** in the HD version is the differential. Everything else from the gearing to the convertor is garbage. SE is still on stock non-HD trans with 280k on it... Runs like a champ and takes the added power without a hiccup

You do realize its the SAME right?

And that makes BOTH transmissions garbage right?

i know this has been answered elsewhere but i want to clarify - exactly what are the differences in the 4t65e and the HD? are the housings the same? isn't the HD differential a bit longer?

No...the Diff is just stronger. Both transmissions are identical minus the non-HD trans has 3.29 gearing...which is what you want.

    good to know blue.
now say i want to do a bit of extensive modding to this build, would it be easiest from a tuning standpoint to do it all at once then get a custom/dyno tune or little by little?
