You might as well just swap out to the L67 (factory s/ced) and avoid a whole lotta headache... you can find one for pretty cheap with low miles at most junkyards.... typically you can find a decent one for $600 or so for motor and tranny.

Top swap removes everything from the top end of the L67 and puts it on the L36. Parts required are heads, LIM, SC, TB, fuel rail, harmonic balancer, and all the little odds and ends like vac lines and idler pulleys etc. You pretty much rebuild the top of the motor.
If you're not doing it yourself, do not go this route. A lot of labor. You shouldn't mod the car too much anyway unless you know what you're doing and not go trusting someone else. You need to know what's going on in there.
I prefer the swap since I'll be rebuilding the heads and it's a lot easier to do that on your desk than when they're on the engine. Plus they'll be completely cleaned (dipped) at a machine shop so it'll be like having a brand new engine. In its stock form, the 3800 bottom end doesn't wear very much so I don't have to worry about rebuilding it. Something happens, get a new one. Plus, I already know the history of this one so I prefer to work with it.
yea i might just do a few mods to it nothing much.i just put the wizaired cai on,and plannin on a slp powerflo exhaust system and zzp 1.0 pcm.should i stop there cuz i at least wanted to add the hv tb and hv3 insert.i just want my car to be able to hang with most and without harmin too.
Those mods are fine for the L36. You don't really need to worry about it until you put some forced induction on. Just scan it once in a while to make sure it's not running lean or knocking.
Arch, there's a lotta junk/salvageyards out where I live in NH that AREN'T on the internet with their inventory, those ones tend to be the cheapest if you can find a gp or a buick or something with an L67 that's been totalled from the rear. Due to the snow and a lotta stupid people, we have our fair share. The best thing to do really is open a phone book and start callin' around. Almost all junk or salvage yards have their stuff accurately inventoried in-house if nothing else, and most will ship for relatively cheap (we ARE still talkin' about a full motor here though), or will hold for pickup. The best place to find stuff is honestly the mom and pop style yards, you just hafta know what you're looking for, and ask the right questions. When I was looking for an L67 to drop in my 96 Lumina, I found some really good deals at the little hole-in-the-wall places around where I was living at the time. Just a thought.
