Thread: Should I get a double-roller?

I'm planning an XP cam build for the winter and am thinking I should get a double roller timing chain as well. I want to replace the stock chain/dampener either way, but I heard getting a double roller is the way to go. Would a new stock chain be fine, or should I get the double roller?

new stock chain is fine.

the only reason you would want to go with a double roller is if you were running 130# springs or higher or you would want to 'set it and forget it'. i ran a double roller on my rocker car, but i had it on the car from a previous cam setup that ran 130# springs.

i never wanted to crack my motor open again. however, that didn't work as planned.

Just what I needed to hear.. I'm going to go with a new stock chain/dampener then. I just don't want it to be worn out come 20,000 miles..

Bigger springs is the deciding factor on a stock, single, or a double roller timing chain. Stock would be fine for you.

Little machining on the I.D. of the crank gear of the double roller, and some surface grinding on the oil pump cover, they work flawless.
