2000 Grand Prix GTP, just bought it two weeks ago today. Driving it this past weekend it would just randomly shut off, or sometimes it would run rough for about 30 sec then die. If it just shut off it would start right back up and run good, but one time it starting running rough before it died and then it started/ran rough/died about 5 times before it came out of it and ran good. My TCS light is always on(Doesnt shut off), but when it dies sometimes when i start it back up i can turn the TCS on and off until the car is turned off again. This is also a pretty ramdom thing, about every 50 miles or so usually. The fuel pump is always running when it should be. I know this is a common prob but i searched quite a bit on it and nobody really had a car that did it so ramdomly so it would be hard to test the MAF, fuel pump resistor, or crank sensor. Right? Also the cars check engine light never comes on.

My 98 GS did this several times a week after I purchased it. One day it died and wouldn't start. The fuel pump fuse blew. Replaced the fuse and it ran again. A mechanic friend said that an old fuel pump can draw more current causing the fuse to blow and could be the cause of randomly bogging and quitting. I replaced the fuel pump, and it's been 3 months without a problem.

I replaced the fuel filter the other night and it seems to be running better, it never died on me yet but if it does i will give both of those a try. Also usually when i put the car in neutral when Im driving the speedo drops to 0, does that have anything to do with the Crank Position Sensor? I read on another thread that if it dies and the speedo goes to 0 the CPS is prob bad. I dont know for sure if it drops to 0 when it dies but it does it when its put in neutral. When the ABS and Trac Off lights are on the speedo always drops to 0 when put in neutral. Its like they always work together. If the ABS light is off the Trac control works then the speedo will not go to zero when the car is put in neutral when driving. Its confusing but im trying to explain it as good as i can. Anyone?

If the cps was bad i'd think it would throw a code. I was going to suggest a fuel filter but looks like you already changed it.

I checked my MAF sensor and it looked spotless, i unplugged it and started the car and it idled way rougher. Im almost positive its my crank sensor so im putting one in today. Whats the easiest way to get the crank pulley off? Thanks

if you unplugged it and it started then your MAF is bad. oh well i guess you got it figured out
